UNITED STATES PATENT ornion.
CHARLES ANDREW STURM, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.'
STEAM-BOILER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES ANDREW STURM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in steam boilers and has for its object to provide means for utilizing the heat from the burning fuel to the best advantage.
Another object is to provide such a boiler which can be cheaply made and is simple in construction.
These objects are attained by means of the improvements illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation on A-B. Fig. 3 shows a top view. Fig. 4 is a section on CD. Fig. shows a detailed sectional elevation of 9.
Like numerals throughout the several views indicate similar parts.
Referring to the drawings, the boiler is shown inclosed by a brick casing l and metal front 13. The bottom compartment 19 having sides 2 and top 21 and bottom 20 is provided with an opening 3 surrounded by walls 18. A grate 4 is provided beneath opening 3 for the reception of fuel which is placed onto the grate through door 14:. Compartment 19 is connected with an intermediate compartment 9 extending from the front wall rearwardly and spaced from the rear wall of the inclosing casing, by pipes 5 and with another intermediate compartment 10 extending from the. rear wall of the casing forwardly and spaced from the front wall 13, by pipes 6. Compartment 10 is also connected with compartment 9 by pipes 7 and with compartment 11 by pipes 8. Compartments 9 and 11 are connected by pipes 22. A steam dome 12 is connected with upper Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 19, 1908.
Patented Jan. 4, 1910.
Serial No. 449,192.
hat I claim is:
A steam boiler comprising a. bottom chamber partially surrounding the fire box, an upper chamber connected with the steam dome, a lower intermediate chamber extending from the front to a distance from the back, an upper intermediate chamber extending from the back to a distance from the front, a wall inclosing said chambers and provided with an opening for the admission of fuel and an opening for the smoke and gases to flow out from between the upper, and upper intermediate chambers at the rear thereof, and pipes connecting the front portion of the lower chamber with the lower intermediate chamber, the rear end of the lower chamber with the upper intermediate chamber, the rear end of the lower intermediate chamber with the upper intermediate chamber, the front end of the lower intermediate chamber with the upper chamber, the upper intermediate chamber with the upper chamber.
In testimony whereof, I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
