This invention relates toy a supportingand releasingr mechanism for safes and has for its object', to` providel means by which the safe may be` supported in proper posi,- tion but which may be,V so set after banking. hours,`tliat should a burglar ,approach the' safe, thel mechanism will operate to release the same, when it will' drop tothe bottom. ofA the guide-way out of the reach of the bur lar.

The supporting and releasing mechanism comprises a air of cablesfadwhich are attaclimlv by suitable devices',;as 8, to the wally 9, and pass under rollers 10, at the bottoni of the carriage and wind upon the shaft 11, which is suitably mounted beneath the floor jo-ists 12. The winding shaft 11, is turned tofwind'the cables thereon by means ot' the lever which is pivoted on the shaft and carries the pawl 15 which'engages aratchet 16rigidly fixed to the shaft.
