Be it known that I, JULIUS Gnanina citizendt the-United States, residing at New Yorkfcity,tManhattan, county and State-of New York, havez invented new and'x useful Improvements in Index Plates for 4Galenlating-Machines, of which the. follow'it'ig is a specification. A
This invention relates to an improvedcalculating machine and more particularly to the index' plate slidably secured to the body of the machine and adapte for the display of the product figures. uch a plate is marked 15 in latent No. 897,659, granted to It. Rein, September 1,1908, and the object of the invention is to' simplify the construction of the plate and reduce its weight, so that it may be manipulated. with less effort.'
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a top view of the index plate; Fig.',2 a bottom view thereof; -I" ig. 3 affront view, and Figs. 4, 5 and' (3 are cross sections on lines 'et-4; 5 5, andG-(S, Fig. 2, respectively.
The index plate 10 is provided at its back with a seriesof dependlng perforatedlugs 11 for the recept-ion of a hinge-rod 12, by which the plate is slidably secured to the machine frame 13. This frame is provided with ai'est 14 which engages the bottom of plate 10 at. the front thereofl and serves to sustain the plate in a horizontal position. llate 1() is made cinnparativelythin and 4is provided Iwith a row of windows 15 through which the product figures are adapted to be displayed. Each Window is "encompassed by a boss 1G inte al with and depending from the bottom Ao platelO. The inner Wall of boss 16 is-ot` Haring shape converging fromtop to bot-tom, (Fig. (i),V while its outer wall is of circular shapev and mergesl into a` 4.bearing 17 which is also-integral with the bottom of plate 10, Bearings17 receive the. arbors of dials 18! displaying the product figures, which are exposed through Windows 15, some of said dials, being indicated by dotted lines in Fig.l 2. It may here be stated that 'the operative mechanism'of the machine does not, form part of the'present invention, the latter relating solely to the construction of the index plate and adjoining devices for sustaining said operative mechanism.

, 21. Of these, front section 1'9liis adapted toll ries the lugs-11. From the top of platefln y extends at each end thereof an integral segmental fingerfpiece 22, by means offwhich the plate may be manipulated.
To the lower side of plate'lCt'is4 secured studs 23 a rail 24 which is spacedztherefrom- 4to accommodate dials 18 and coperating parts. Rail 24 isprovided with a series of triangular projections 25 perforated as at 26 for receiving the lower' ends of arbors carrying auxiliary dials 274;the `upper ends of such arbo'rsV being receivedv within Perforations 28 of plate 10.,'v Di'als'27.l are also mounted between plate 10"andrail and their figures 'are exposed througha row of windows 29 of the plate.` A `series'ofglongi-4 i tudinal slots 30, in rail 24ar'e adapted to receiveguide vpins 31 of aslide32', yby means of which dials 18 are returnedtotlieirgzero position.
Front rim. 19` is proviiilialflietweenvilin-` l dows 29 with a series of stepped'projleetions 33 for accommodating l'auxiliaryas ide 34, by means of which. dials-I 27 .aref-fre rated. Rim 19 is further providedxgwitlithesual nose' 35 by means of-whiclnfthe pla'4 Y and locked in position duri-ng tho'oal tending at right angletherefrm-.andfcast into front rim 19, as indicated. y
Within the upper face of`plate i 10 are' formed a air` of undercut longitudinal. grooves 37,-
