To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Fnrnnniorr ADAM GnirnL, manufacturer, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and resident of Fleissen, Bohemia, in the Empire of fins tria-Hungary, have invented a new and useful improvement in Machines for the Treatment of Skins and the Like, of which the following is the specification.

The present invention has for its object a boarding machine in which the leather to be treated is clamped between a rotating drum and a yielding table of corresponding curvature and automatically drawn along by the rotation of the drum.

A constructional form of this machine is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:

Figure lshows the machine and table in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the table swung back from the drum. Fig. i is a front elevation of the machine. Fig. 4: is a detail view. Figs. 5 and 6 show diagrannuatically the method of inserting the leather to be treated and of feeding it. Fig. 7 illustrates in section the fixing of the covering of the drum.

In the bearings 1 the drum 3 covered with cork, leather or other appropriate material 2 is mounted; it may be rotated either by hand or power and in the latter case a pulley 5 keyed to the shaft e of the drum. A. table 6 of a curvature corresponding to that of the drum and covered with cork, leather, india rubber or the like, is rotatably mounted in the stand of the machine by means of arms 6; by means of this table the skin can be pressed against the drum. The table is actuated by means of systems of levers 7, 8 and 9 arranged on both sides of the stand and adapted to be operated by means of a pedal 10. The free ends of the rods 9 are connected with a rod 11 which is displaceable in eyes 12 on the table 6, so that upon actuating the pedal first the rod 11 is pressed against the table and the table against the drum. The pedal 10 is kept in raised position by the weight 13 attached thereto by the flexible connection 13*.

pressed uniformly against the drum, it is yieldingly mounted in the frame 18. With this object the shaft 1% of the table 6 rests in eyes 15 in bolts 16. Between the nuts 17 and india rubber bufi'ers 19 resting on the frame 18 helical springs 21 are arranged around the bolts 16 between washers (Fig. 4).

The drum covering is maintained stretched on the drum segments in the following manner :The ends of the covering 2 are clamped between rails 23 by means of wing nuts 2% and one extremity of the tension rods 25 engages with these rails while their other extremity, which is screw threaded, enters a nut provided with a right and left handed thread by actuating which the covering can consequently be given any desired tension (Fig. 7).

Tie operation of the machine is as follows :As shown in Fig. 5 the skin 22 to be treated has one of its extremities introduced between the rod 11 and the table 6, whereupon the pedal 10 is actuated. By means of the systems of levers 7, 8, 9, the rod 11 is pressed against the table; the skin is clamped between these parts and the table and the skin are then pressed against the drum (Fig. 6). Owing to the yielding manner in which the table is mounted all parts of the skin will be uniformly pressed against the drum, so that its entire surface will be uniformly treated.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. A machine for treating skins and the like comprising a rotating drum, a table of a curvature corresponding to that of the drum, means for yieldingly hinging one end of the table adjacent the bottom of the drum, and means engaging the other end of the table for pressing the table against the drum.
