Banking-Machine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparatus designed to fa; cilitate the deposit of money in banks by relieving the depositor of the necessity of visiting the bank in which he desires to deposit his money.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and ar-' rangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustratedin the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a detail view of a dlsk having a series of cams on the circumference thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail'view of a notched disk. Figs. 4 to 6 inclusive are details of parts of the invention, and 7 is a detail view of one of the depositing slips used in the apparatus.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a drum adapted to carry about its circumference a roll of paper upon which is printed in perforated sections the deposit ticket and bank receipts, a detail of which is shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings. to be rotated by pulling upon the paper wound thereabout and in a manner which will be presently described. A second drum B is mounted upon a shaft D adapted to be journaled in suitablebearings in a casing,
not shown, and C is a ratchet wheel rotating with the drum B and adapted to be engaged by a pawl H against which a spring I bears. A disk E having a series of cam teeth terminating in shoulders a is fixed to the shaft D as is also a disk F having notches b in the circumference. A roller G having spindles U is mounted in suitable journals in the frame of the apparatus and has a circumferential groove about the middle portion thereof designed to receive the spurs X which project from the drum B and designed for the purpose of insuring accuracy in the delivery of the coin and to prevent the improper withdrawal of the same from the machine. Said roller G is frictionally in to lock the drum B from rotation.
Said drum is adapted contact with the drum B and adapted to de liver the paper without slipping by reason of the friction intermediate the drum and roller.
J designates an angled ratchet mounted in bearings and K is a spring adapted to bear against said ratchet and throw the same into one or another of the notches b It will be noted that the edges of the cam teeth upon the disk E contact with the under edge of said ratchet and serve to normally raise the latter out of one of the notches b. L designates a tube with its upper end open and so positioned as to receive coins which may be inserted in the apertures.
M is a bar having serrations along the edge thereof and so positioned as to be c0nvenient for severing the paper as it is with drawn from the apertures. A suitable guideway N is formed in front of the drums and through which the paper passes and is guided as it is unwound from the drum. A lever O is pivotally mounted upon the shaft D and a receptacle P is movably mounted upon said handle and is adapted to receive the coins to be deposited in the receptacle L.
Movably mounted upon said lever is a sleeve T having a slot' S therein and a spring V is interposed between said sleeve and the coin containing receptacle P. A lug Q, shown clearly in Fig. 5, projects from said sleeve and a pin R carried by the lever has a play in the slot S and serves to limit the longitudinal movement of the sleeve. In order to limit the movement of the lever, cross-pieces & are positioned at suitable locations in the framer.
In operation, when the lever O is resting in the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings against the lower of the stops & and the coin Z positioned in the receptacle P, by swinging the lever toward its highest limit, the lug Q riding on the cam edge of a tooth upon the disk E will cause the coin receptacle to move and, when the coin therein comes in contact with the angled end of the ratchet K, it will raise the same out of the notch Z) and permit the coin to fall into the receptacle L. By reason of the ratchet H engaging the teeth of the wheel C, it will be noted that the drum B is prevented from rotating backward. The drums being released by the forward thrust of the lever and, when the coin is deposited in the receptacle L, tl1e ratchet J will be thrown back on the circumference on the edges of the cams of the wheel E by means of the spring K and, by pulling the paper. forward upon the same from the drum, the ratchet will be thrown into the first notch 7) which comes into registration with the ratchet J, thus securely locking the drum against further rotary movement.
As the deposit tickets and deposit slips are printed and regularly spaced intervals ruled upon the drum A, the motion of the drum it will be understood, will regulate the length of the paper delivered at each operation of the apparatus. For instance, if the drum 13 makes a quarter revolution, the portion of the paper which will protrude from the opening in the guideway N will equal onefourth of the drum B. The section of paper torn off by the operator of the machine, it will be noted, is divided by a perforated line into two equal portions upon one of which will be printed the receipt of the bank for the money deposited and upon the other ticket of deposit the name of the depositor. The depositor of the coin should tear the strip of paper along the perforated line and preserve the receiptportion and should write his name on the deposit slip portion and deposit the same in the receptacle to be provided therefor and not shown. It is my purpose to have the various sections of paper upon the roll numbered serially, the same number appearing upon the deposit slip portion as upon the receipt part. Assuming that a fresh roll of paper has been placed in the machine and that the coin receptacle L is empty, the person who makes the first deposit will draw deposit slip No. 1 and receipt No. 1 and his coin will be No. 1 in the tube or receptacle. Its position in the receptacle or tube would indicate that it was the first coin deposited and that the depositor has in his possession receipt No. l in that particular roll, thus establishing the identity of the person depositing the coin with the person holding the receipt.
That I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An automatic banking apparatus, comprising a roller, a shaft to which the same is fixed, a wheel keyed to said shaft and having cam edges upon its circumference terminating in shoulders, a notched wheel rotating with said shaft, a pivotal lever, a coin and receptacle therefor carried by said lever, means engaging said notched wheel and actuated by said coin and receptacle for releas ing the notched wheel, mechanism carried by the lever and adapted to engage a shoulder upon said cam edged wheel and cause the latter to make a partial rotary movement as the lever is swung in one direction, and means cooperating with said roller for feeding a paper forward as the latter is rotated, as set forth.
2. An automatic banking apparatus, comprising a roller, a shaft to which the same is fixed, a wheel keyed to said shaft and having cam edges upon its circumference terminating in shoulders, a notched wheel rotating with said shaft, a movable ratchet normally engaging the notches of said wheel, a pivotal lever, a coin and receptacle therefor carried by the lever. mechanism carried by the lever and adapted to engage a shoulder upon said cam edged wheel and cause the latter to make a partial rotary movement as the lever is swung in one direction, and means cooperating with said roller for feeding a paper forward as the latter is rotated, as set forth.
3. An automatic banking apparatus, comprising a roller, a shaft to which the same is fixed, a wheel keyed to said shaft and having cam edges upon its circumference tern'iinating in shoulders, a notched wheel rotating with said shaft, a movable ratchet normally engaging the notches of said wheel, a pivotal lever, a coin and receptacle therefor carried by the lever and adapted to release and hold said ratchet from the notched wheel, a sleeve upon said lever and provided with a projec tion adapted to engage one of said shoulders of the cam edged wheel to cause a partial revolution to be imparted to the latter as the lever is swung in one direction, and means cooperating with the cylinder for feeding a strip of paper forward as the cylinder is rotated, as set forth.
4-. An automatic banking apparatus, comprising a roller, a shaft to which the same is fixed, a wheel keyed to said shaft and having cam edges upon its circumference terminating in shoulders, a notched wheel rotating with said shaft, a movable ratchet normally engaging the notches of said wheel, a pivotal lever, a coin and receptacle therefor carried by the lever and adapted to release and hold said ratchet from the notched wheel, a spring-pressed sleeve mounted upon the lever and having a projection designed to engage one of the shoulders upon said cam edged wheel whereby, as the lever is moved in one direction, a partial revolution may be imparted to said roller, and means cooperating with the latter for feeding a strip of paper forward as the cylinder rotates, as set forth.
5. An automatic banking apparatus, comprising a roller, a shaft to which the same is fixed, a wheel keyed to said shaft and having w cam edges upon its circumference terminaling in shoulders, a notched wheel rotating with said shaft, a movable ratchet normally engaging the notches of said wheel, a pivotal lever, a coin and receptacle therefor carried by the lever and adapted to release and hold said ratchet from the notched wheel, a spring-pressed sleeve mounted upon the lever, a pin carried by the lever and passing through slots in said sleeve, a projection of the latter adapted to engage one of the shoulengagement with the notched. wheel as the ders of said cam edged wheel whereby, as the lever is swung in one direction, a partial revolution may be imparted to said roller, and means cooperating with the latter for causing a strip of paper to be fed forward as lever is swung in one direction, a sleeve upon said lever-provided with a lateral projection adapted to engage a shoulder upon said cam edged wheel whereby, as the lever is swung in one direction, said wheel may be rotated therewith, and means cooperating with the roller for feeding a strip of paper forward as the latter rotates, as set forth.
