CONCRETE WINDOW-FRAME.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October a, 1908. Serial 110455394.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADRIAN Hrrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and .usefulv Improvements in Concrete Window- Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accom anying drawing.
y invention relates to the construction of fireproof window frames, and has for its object the provision of a concrete window. frame wh1ch may be used in brick, stone and concrete buildings, such window frame being cheap and simple in construction, while being absolutely fireproof, easy to place in position, and effective in operation.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists in certain novel and useful combinations or arrangements or parts, and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then; pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an outside view in elevation of a window frameembodying mly invention, sashes being mounted therein. ig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view at line H of Fig. 1, the lower sash being raised in theframe. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the lower part of one of the sides of the frame, showm the arrangement of the weight ocket. i 4 is a vertlcal sectional view at e 6-6 0 Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view at line H of Fig. 4.
Like numerals of reference wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in all the res. Y
1 are the sides of the window frame made of concrete. Two weight wells are formed in each side 1 by means of channel irons 2 around which the concrete is molded,.and the sash slide ways are made of channel iron 3, which fit into and are secured to the first mentioned channel irons, and extend out to the inner faces of the sides 1. The parting stri 4 is formed integral with the side 1, an may be reinforce by nails 5, or the equivalent. It will be seen that the concrete extends over the edges of the iron 2, securing such ironagainst displacement, and at I Patented Oct. 19, 1909'.
the same time said iron serves to reinforce 9 isa pulley for the sash cord, this pulley being mounted on a shaft 10 fixed in a n shaped box or casing 11 which is susended upon a pin 12- projecting inward om a piece 3.
20 is the concrete top of the window frame, and 21 is an angle iron embedded therein for the rece tion of the top rail of the upper sash and a so serving to reinforce the top piece of the frame.
13 is the upper sash and 14 the lower sash. One of the side stiles of each sash is made in two parts, one of which 15, is removable from the fixed art of the stile. To the art 15 is secured a metal strip 16, said strip Being detachably connected to the fixed portion, 19, of the sash by means of screws 17 which engage slots 18 in the strip 16. When it is desired to remove a sash from the frame, the portion 15 of the side stile is held against movement with the weight to which it is connected, and by bringing the heads of the screws 17 opposite the enlargement of the slots in the strip 16, and then swinging the sash inward, away from the strip 16, it may be readily withdrawn from the slide ways.
Having now fully described 'my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A concrete window frame in which are comprised concrete side pieces 1, channel irons 2 embedded therein, and sash slide ways 3, also formed of channel iron and fittin into the channel irons 2, substantially as s own and described.
Intestimony whereof I heretoaflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
