FAUCET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F'. ODEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ophir, in the county of Tooele and State of Utah, have invented a new and Improved Faucet, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved faucet, more especially designed for use on jigs, hydraulic sizers or any tank or receptacle from which a mixture of solid and liquid matter is to be drawn, for feeding concentrating machines or for de-watering, clarifying or other purposes, and arranged to permit the operator to quickly change the position of the working parts for opening the faucet to the full extent for the removal of a mixture of solid and liquid material o1' for discharging a mixture of solid and liquid material through a desired sized spout or for completely closing the faucet.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims. n
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of the improvement as applied, and showing the discharge pipe in register with the large bore of the faucet body; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the improvement; Fig. 3 is a reduced side elevation of the improvement showing the parts in full open position; and Fig. 4 is a like view of the same showing the parts in a closed position.
The body A of the faucet is provided at its inner end with a threaded portion A for screwing into the side of a tank B. on which the faucet is to be used. The body .A is provided with a large bore A2 and the outer end of the body A is provided with a segmental seat A3 on which is held a correspondingly shaped facing C fastened in place on the seat A3 by bolts C or other fastening means. On the face C is fitted a segmental plate D provided with a screw bushin E, in which screws a spout F, and the sai plate D is pressed on by springs G coiled on pins D extending from the plate D and projecting with the springs G into cups H projecting from the outer end of a swing, arm H fulcrumed at I on the body A, the center of the fulcrum I corresponding to the center of the segmental facing C and the plate D.` The plate D is so arranged that when the several parts are in position, as shown in Fig. l, the spout F is in register with the large bore A2, but when the arm H is swung upward and with it the plate D to the position shown in Fig. 3, then the plate D uncovers the bore A2, so as to provide a full discharge of the liquid and solid matter contained in the tank B. When the arm H is swung downward and with it the plate D to the position shown in Fig. 4, then the plate D completely closes the bore A2 as the spout F is then out of register with the bore A2. By having the plate D springpressed, leakage between the plate and the facing C is prevented, and by providing the plate D with the bushing E, and the latter with the spout- F, it is evident that different sized spouts F can be interchangeably used with corresponding bushings E, according tothe amount of the matter to be discharged from the tank B. It will also be noticed that by having the springs G pressing the plate D against the facingC, the plate D and the arm H remain in whatever position they are moved to by the operator.
The front of the arm H is provided with an opening H2, to permit convenient insertion of a wrench or a like tool, for screwing up vor unscrewing the bushing E whenever it is desired to do so.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the bore A2 can be readily opened and closed, and the bore may also be connected with the spout F, for discharging a predetermined amount in a given time from the tank B.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Lotters Patent:
l. A faucet, comprising a body having a vlarge bore, a plate movable on the outer end of the said body to open or close the bore thereof, a bushing removably held on thc said plate, and a spout removably held on the said bushing and adapted to register with the said bore.
2. A faucet, comprising a body having a large bore, and provided at its outer end with a segmental face, a segmental plate mounted to slide on the said face for opening and closing the said bore, an arm mounted to swing on the said body, springs held on the said arm and engaging the said plate to press the latter into contact with the said face and to carry the plate along, a bushing screwing in the said plate, and a spout screwing in the said bushing.
3. A faucet, comprising a body having a large bore and provided at its outer `end with a segmental face, a segmental plate mounted to slide on the said face for opening and closing the said bore, an arm mounted to swing on the said body, springs held on the said arm and engaging the said plate to press the latter into contact with the said face and to carry the plate along,a bushing screwing in the said plate, and a spout screwing in the said bushing, the said arm having an opening for gaining access to the said spout and bushing.
4. A faucet, comprising a body having a large bore and provided at its outer end with a segmental face, a segmental plate mounted to slide on the said face for opening and closing the bore, an arm mounted to swing on the body, springs held on the arm and engaging the plate to press the latter into contact with the face and to carry the plate along, a spout supported by the plate, said arm having an opening for permitting access to the spout.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
