Specification of Letters Patent.
v Application filed January 2l, 1907.
.Patented Uct. 19, i999.
Serial No. 353,183.
i To all whom it concer/L:
-Be it k-nown that I, `WOLF Armerina, a
citizen of the United States, residing in.
being exposed near the edge ot the superimposed layer.
Figure l in perspective shows a main layer with a portion of a superimposed layer thereon united thereto by some stitches, said ligure also showing the needle and threads in the process of forming the stitch; and Fig. 2 is a similar View with the needle retracted from both materials.
Referring to the drawings, it represents a piece of main material which may be a part of a coat, and B la piece of superiniposed material which maybe the lining of a coat, one edge Za of-said material being intnrned vtoleave what is called a folded edge b.
Thel needle C to be employed inv making the ,seam to be herein described will preferably be of the `curved variety provided with an eye at its point, and the loop of needle thread 'will receive through it a locking thread carried by a loop-taker, all substantially as provided for in United States Patent No. 830,699, granted to-me and dated September 11, 1906. Toinake the seamreferr-cd to, the point of the needle C -will be thrust into the upper side of the main layer and will emerge from the upper side thcreot' underneath the edge of the superimposed layer and will continue in its movement entering said superimposed layer at its under side andlpassing therefromv at its upper side Where the loop formed in the needle thread D, see Fig. 1, will receive through it the looper thread E supposed to be carried by a `loop-taker such as illustrated in said patent.`
.The needle, afterreaching the position Fig. 1, is Withdrawn from the material and in so doing draws the locking thread from thcupper side ot into the superimposed layer, the needle thread used to lock cach bight of locking thread being drawn outwardly through the main layer from the hole made by the needle when penetrating,
the upper side of said main layer.
Fig. 2 shows the needle retracted.; After the needle has been retracted or drawn backwardly from the main layer, the material will be i"e llca\'i1ig bights a, of the locking thread locked by portions 2 of the needle thread,` the needle thread being concealed by the edge oi the superimposed layer through which the line of stitching is extended, as represented' in the drawings.
f rlihe hein herein shown has been devised as a substitute for hand felling, the stitch bcing 'observable only von the superimposed layer, the needle thread of the stitch being wholly concealed from view :from the upper or right side ot' the article, a portion of said needle thread being buried in the main ma terial,
It 'will be understood forming part oi' this application that the stitch that is exposed only on the outer side oithe sulpierimposed layer may be made as in the drawings close as desired to the folded part b of the edge of the superimposed layer,"the drawings showing the material and the stitch enlarged.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire/to secure by Letters Patent is :M
1. The herein described seam, comprising a main layer ot' material, .a superimposed layer presenting an edge thereon, and two threads, oneA thread lying along the upper surface of said .snpernnposed layer near and parallel to said edge, and presentin at intervals loops extending down into said layer,
the other thread lying along the upper sur iace of said main layer beneath said edge and presenting Yat, intervals loops entering and emerging .from the upper surface of the main layer and interlocked with the corresponding loops of the rst thread. p
2. The heroin-described seam, comprising a main layer of inatr-rial,v a superimposed layer presenting an edge thereon, and two threads, one thread lying along the upper surface ot said su crimposed layer near and pa 'allel to said e gc, and presenting at intervals loops extending down into said hlyul', ihe oiihell thread lying @Jong the upv er In testimony whereof, I have signed my sul-hure of Said main layer bencatn said e ge neme to this specicazion, in the presence o1 und presenting at mtervals loops mchned two subscribing; witnesses.
to said edge and entering and emerging from WOLF ARBETTER. the upper surface of the main ayer and intel-locked with the corresponding loops of the first thread. v
