Description
M. RITTLER. STUDDING CLIP FOR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION. APPLICATION FILED JULY 28, 1908.

WITNESSES INVENTOR v ATTO EY MAURICE RITTLER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
STUDDINTG-CLIP FOR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 5, 1909.
Application filed July 28, 1908. Serial No. 445,710.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAURICE RITTLER,
citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in studding-Clips for Building Construction, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a means for unit-. ing studding and like parts where used in building construction, especially where such studding is used in pairs, occupying substantially the thickness of the partition wall,- and said pairs being set up at such intervals is ilvill include the length of the wall to be ui t. i t
It consists of the combination of parts, and in details of construction which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings. a
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the application of my studding clips. Fig. 2 is a. plan view of the same. Fig. 3 shows a modification.
As shown in the drawings, A-A are studding members which may be made of T, angle, channel, or other desired form of rolled or otherwise formed metal strips. In the present case they are shown as of channel iron. These studding members are set up at such a distance apart as will include the thickness ofathe partition which they are designed to form, less the plaster or other coating which forms the completed partition. In order to support these studding members, and form a rigid union between them, I employ clips 2 which may be formed of sheet metal strips, or of wire, or rods of sufficient stiffness. These clips are bent so that the central angular portion 2 forms the abutment against which the adjacent edges of the studding rest, thence from these angle portions the clip extends across the backs of the studding members as indicated at 2; thence the clips are bent along the outer edges of the studding members, as shown at 2*, and are finally folded inwardly and into the channels of the iron as shown at 2; thus forming a perfect lock for the studding members to hold them rigidly in place. Members of this character are set up at intervals of 10 or 12 inches, more or less, from one end of the proposed partition to the other; these members extending vertically to the required height of the partition, 01' such part of it as they occupy. These studding members then form a support for wire or other form of metal lath, which may be secured thereto, and an outer coating of plastic material, which will afterward harden, being applied. A hollow and extremely rigid partition is produced, with a minimum of thickness for the required strength. The space between these studding members is sufiicient for the passage'of water, gas, or other'pipes or electrical wires, or
any parts which it is designed to extend over different portions of the building.
Having thus described my, invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Y Y The combination with parallel channel iron studding members, having the open sides facing in the direction of the plane of the partition, of singlemetal clips extending between said members, each clip having its central portion bent to form parallel abutments inclosing an intermediate rectangular space, said abutments adapted to lie against the inner flat sides of the studding members, and said clips having portions bent at right angles to the abut-ments extending outwardly across the flat rear faces of the studding members, thence bent at right angles parallel with the abutments, and across the outer fiat edges of the studding members, thence having their terminals folded inwardly across the channeled portions of said studding members.
A In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAURICE RITTLER. Witnesses:
