Description

R. B. HASKINS. MOLDEBJS CHAPLE'II. APPLIGATION Hun MNA, 1908.
Patented Oct. 5, 1909.
UNITED STATES PATENT GEECE.
ROBERT B. I-IASKINS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
MOLDER S CHAPLET.
Application filed January 9, 1908.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT B. Haskins, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Molders Chaplets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of devices which is employed for supporting, and holding in position, the cores used in molding or casting, and the object is to provide a simple, cheaply made, substantial and efficient chaplet, or anchor, adapted for use in any position and in moldingcastings of any desired thickness.
My invention consists in the chaplet hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings Figures l and 2 are perspective views of molders chaplets embodying my invention, and Fig. 3 a perspective view showing, on a smaller scale, a chaplet like that shown in Fig. l bent for use upon a cylindrio core.
The reference letter a denotes the base plate which is of sheet metal, preferably of tin plate; b b a series of legs, stamped from the base plate and having feet c c adapted to serve as drawing surfaces; and l d openings left in the base plate, by cutting out the legs, and serving as vents for the escape of gases or air. The legs and feet form supports for the side of the cliaplet, opposite the base s plate, and may be so distributed as to ajford adequate bearing surface and supports for Specification of Letters Patent.
the entire areaof the chaplet.
Patented Oct. 5, 1909.
Serial No. 409,902.
The cha-plete are preferably produced by means of co-acting, mechanically operated dies which cut the blanks and shape the chaplet at one operation.
It will be noted that the bearing surfaces may be regularly distributed and in such manner as to produce a relatively large area of bearing surface for each side of the chaplet; that the legs interfere but slightly with the inflowof the molten metal; that ample ventilation is provided; that the chaplet may be used in any position without danger of formation of a pocket for accumulation of gas or air; that it may be made of such dimensions as to adapt it for the use in making the thinnest of castings; that it is produced from a single piece of metal, small in proportion to the surface area of the chaplet, without any waste of material, by a single operation and wit-hout hand work.
I claim as my invention:
A molders chaplet consisting of a single piece of metal provided with a series of vent openings, and a series of supporting legs corresponding with the vent openings, the material cut away to form the vent openings constituting the legs, substantially as and for the purpose speciiied.
