APPARATUS FOR WASHING VEGETABLE FIBERs roe SPINNING.
Speeificationbf Letters Patentf LPatmatbd Sept. 21, 1909.
Application filed March as, 1907; Serial nblssdose To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL NfiME'rHY, a sub jeot of the King of Hungary, and resident of Arad. a small town in .Xustria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Washing Vegetable Fibers for Spinning, of which the following is aspecification.
For washing animal fiberssuch as wool and the like, ployed in which the fibers are ledin tubs or buckets beneath roses. These apparatus can however not be employed for washing vegetable fibers for spinning, as the fibers in the tubs or buckets. would get too much entangled by the roses so that a spinning of the same would beimpossible. Now, in order that the vegetable fibers when being washed do not get entangled but remain perfectly straight and parallel, and further in order to reduce the fiberbundles while .main-. taining their parallel position to single fibers, -the present invention provides, 1nstead of the tubs or buckets, long boxes and, insteadot' the roses, parallel shower-pipes to these boxes which are however not as usual fitted with holes but at their underside with for spinning a longitudinal slot so that the fibers are not met by many jets but by a single jetsimilar to the cutting edge of a lmifeparallela tothe direction of the fibers whereby a good disentanglement of lar e fiber bundles as well-as a thorough was ling of the fibers at a. permanent parallel position of the latter is effected.
The improved apparatus ,is shown in the accompanying drawmg.
Figures 1 and 1 are respectively a side and end elevation of the same, one of-the pipes connected with a source of steam supply, while Figs. 2 and 3 show details, of the same.
apparatus are em-' washed. and reduced to single fibers.
Over two rollers 2 which are movably mounted on parallel axles l, the endless band 3 is led and fitted with a fixed sieve-boxes 4 with sieve-like bottoms 7, into which the 'fiberbundles are embedded.
row, shower-pipes 5 which at their unclerslde are providedwith a longitudinal slot 6, are
arranged so as to lie parallel to the axles-1 and-also tothe length of the fiber bundles which are for this purpose placed in this position into the sieve-boxes4. By the ef fect of the sharp water jets supplied throu h the pipes 5, the fiber bimdles are thorough y The bundles are then conveyedto Wet-presses and from 'there into the drying chamber, upon which the fibers are su ciently pliant in order to be worked up;
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An apparatus for washing vegetable fibers for spinning, comprising in combination, two inovably mounted rollers (2), an endless band (3) arranged over said two rollers, a series of long open sieve-boxes (4) fixed on said endless band and designed to receive-the raw fiber material, a series of shower-pipes 5 provided at their underside with a longitu inal slot in such a way as to face with the latter the upperrow of the fiber bundles in said sieve-boxes and to lie parallel thereto, for the purpose set forth.
, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
