UNITED STATES PATENT oF'FIo PAUL FREDERIK DEGN, OF BREMEN, GERMANY.
SCREW-PROPELLER roa FLYlNG-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters l atent. l ggtteynte(l Septglel, 1909 Original application filed October 6, 1908, Seria1 No.456,464. Divided and this application filed March 25,
' 1909. Serial no. 455,722.
To all whom it may. concern: v
Be it known that E, PAUL F. DEGN, a citizen of Germany, residing at Bremen, Germany, have invented new and. useful Im provements in Screw-Propellersfor Flying- Machines, of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to an improved screw propeller for flying machines, being a division of an application filed by me October 6, 1908, under Serial No. 456,464, and compriscsmore particularly a novel construction of the propeller wing.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure l is a plan of my improved propeller wing, and Fig. 2 a cross section thereof.
To a base or support I), are pivoted at 0, the inner ends of a suitable number of sheet metal strips a, having overlapping edges. Adjoining strips are slid-ably connected to each other at suitable distances by means of transverse links d, that are secured to the strips by studs 6, and extend across the oints formed by the overlapped edges.
By the construction described, great strength and rigidity is imparted to thewings, while the strips aret'ree to adjust themselves at their fulcrums to the centrifugal force -and air resistance, the necessary longitudinal movement during such adjustment being permitted by the slidable connection between the strips.
1 claim:
llIn a screw propeller for flying ma-' chines, a wing comprising a base, a serles of metal strips pivoted thereto, and means for slidably connecting adjoining strips.
2. In a screw propeller for flying machines, a wing comprising a base, a series of overlapping metal strips pivoted thereto, and links connecting adjoining strips.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of March, 1909, in the presence of .two subscribing witnesses.
' PAUL FREDERIK DEGN.
