UNITED starts PATENT ornion.
CHARLES A. STEINMAN, OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
MILK-BOTTLE MAT.
Application filed October 14, 1908.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. STEIN- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottle Mats, of which the following is a specification.
lWIy invention relates to an improved milk bottle mat, and more particularly to a mat to be placed on the doorsill and receive the milk bottle, the object of the invention being to provide an improved milk bottle mat which will be securely locked in position by the mere closing of the door, and which will be of such material as to absorb any moisture from the bottle to prevent staining of the doorsill.
A further object is to provide a mat of the character set forth which can be readily re moved from its operating position and hung in a convenient location for drying, before the next mornings use.
A further object is to provide a milk bottle mat with means for locking the bottle on the mat to prevent the milk being stolen.
A further object is to provide a milk bottle mat which will be extremely simple in construction and cheap to manufacture, and may contain printed advertisements and space for correspondence between the householder and the milkman.
WVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a view in section through a door and sill illustrating my improvement in operative position, and Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the mat detached.
1 represents the mat proper, which may be made of any desired size or shape and of any suitable material, but preferably of material such as binders board to absorb the moisture from the bottle, or so shaped as to prevent any moisture which might be deposited on the mat from running over the edges.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 14, 1909.
Serial No. 457,629.
To secure the mat in position, a cord or wire 2, preferably the latter, is connected by an eye-bolt 3 or other suitable means with the mat l and is adapted to be passed over the doorsill A as illustrated in Fig. 1. The wire 2 is provided at its inner end with a ring or other suitable anchor 5 of such size as to prevent its being drawn beneath the door when the latter is in closed position.
An advantage in employing a ring is that it would serve as a hanger for the mat and allow the latter to be hung up to dry during the day. To prevent the bottle being stolen I provide a lock 6 which may be of any of the various well known forms, connected by a chain with eye-bolt 3. The look shown is an ordinary padlock to be locked around the neck of the bottle, the householder and milkman both having keys for the lock, or the householder may leave the padlock open at night and the milkman snaps it around the bottle. It will thus be seen that while my improvements are extremely simple, their use will prevent a great deal of damage now caused by the moisture from milk bottles upon the doorsills, and will result in a great saving of time and labor heretofore necessary in cleaning the sills to rid the same of the milk left by the bottle.
A great many changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a bottle supporting mat, an eyebolt secured in the mat, an anchor, a flexible connecting device between the eye-bolt and said anchor, a bottle lock, and a flexible connecting device'between said eye-bolt and the bottle lock.
2. In combination with a door sill and a door, of a bottle supporting mat on one side of the door, an eye-bolt secured in said mat,
an anchor on the other side of the door and of a size greater than the space between the door sill and door a flexible connecting device between the eye-bolt and the anchor and extending under the door, a bottle lock, and k a flexible connecting device between the bottle lock and eye-bolt.
