UNITED STATES OFFICE.
BENJAMN HUNKLER, or BARNEsvILL, omo.
snaren.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN HUNKLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Barnesville, Belmont county, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful 11nprovements in Beaters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to beaters of that class designed for agitating liquids, beating eggs, and similar substances ordinarily used in the preparation of food and the object thereof is to provide a beater in a manner as hereinafter set forth which can be readily connected to a jar, by way of example the ordinary Mason glass jar.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a beater as hereinafter referred to which shall be simple in construction, strong, durable, readily set up with respect to a receptacle, inexpensive to i'nanufacture, operated with a minimum exertion and designed to prevent a waste of the substances being agitated.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a beater in accordance with this invention showing the adaptation of the same in connection with a jar or receptacle. F ig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, partly in front elevation, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view illustrating the driving means for the beater frame and dashers.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 denotes a receptacle or jar having a neck portion 2 which is exteriorly screw threaded and to which is adapted to be secured an interiorly screw-threaded metallic cap 3 formed with an upwardly extending bracket 4 having a vertical extension 6 terminating in a bearing 14. Interposed between the bracket 6 and extending through the cap 3 is a rotatable sleeve 5 having fixed to its upper end a gear wheel 11 and carrying on its lower end a gear wheel 12. Extending through the sleeve 5 is the upper end 7 of a beater frame 8 which is in the form of a Specification of Letters Patent.

wire loop. The extreme end of the portion 7 of the beater frame is fixed in the lower end of the extension 6. The other end of the beater frame 8 and which is indicated by the reference character 9 extends through the cap 3 and carries a gear wheel 16 which meshes with the gear wheel 12 on the sleeve 5.
The reference character 17 denotes a dasher which is in the form of a loop and has the upper end 17 a surrounding and connected to the lower end of. the sleeve 5. The dasher 17 is sufficiently rigid to prevent downward movement of the sleeve 5. rlhe nut 17 a is secured to the sleeve 7 and to the dasher 17.
The reference character 18 denotes a dasher which is in the form of a loop and has the upper end as at 18aL mounted upon the beater frame in close proximity to the gear 16. The dasher frame 1S is prevented from lowering through the medium of a disk 21a which is fixed to the beater frame 8 in close proximity to the top 18a of the dasher 18. The disk 21n furthermore constitutes a means to prevent the gear 16 moving out of mesh with the gear 12. The dasher 18 is disposed at right angles with respect to the dasher 17, and extending through the lower portion ofthe dasher frame 18 is the beater frame 8, the latter also extending through the lower portion of the dasher 17 and by such an arrangement the beater frame and dashers 17 and 18 are connected together.-V
The beater frame 8 extends through the dasher 18 as at 2O and extends through the dasher 17 as at 19. One arm of the dasher 18 extends within the dasher 17 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The sleeve 5 is rotated through the medium of a gear wheel 13 engaging with the gear wheel 11. The gear wheel 13 is mounted upon a shaft 13a which is journaled in the bearing 14, and the said gear wheel 13 is provided with a handle 15 whereby the said gear can be conveniently rotated.
What I claim is A device of the character described comprising the combination with a cap adapted to be secured to a receptacle, a bracket formed integral with said cap and provided with a vertical extension, a sleeve interposed between said bracket and the cap and extending through the cap, a beater frame having a portion thereof extending through the sleeve and fixed to the bracket and another portion extending through and connected to the Cap, gear Whees carried by said sleeve, a for rotating the sleeve thereby imparting* 16 gear Wheel carried by the beater frameyn motion to the dashers and beater frame,
close proximity to the 'a'p and meshing with a IH tes'tlmony whereof aHX my slgnature one of the gear Wheels upon the sleeve, a 1n the presence of two W1tnesses.`
dasher connected to said sleeve a flasher oonl Y f 7 neoted to the beater frame an extending at A n BENJAMIN HUNKLER an angle 'with respect to the first mentioned Witnesses: I flasher, means whereby the beater frame and W. H; GI-BBON,
dashers are connected together, and means F; M. PRYOR.
