UNITED STAJIgalbgl 'PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. GAWLER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE C. F. PEASE BLUE PRINT MACHINERY AND SUPPLY COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS. y
Application led November 23, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. Gawnnr., a
securely mounted sprockets 8, connected by citizen of the United States, residing at (,hi-
cago, in the county of (look and State of I Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Blue-Print Yt'vashers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to blue print washin their path of movement actuated by the ers, and the object thereofis to provide a simple and inexpensive apparatus for washing prints, which will wet the printed side of the paper only.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention, and forming a'v part of this i specification, Figure l is a transverse vertical sectional view taken through my Vimproved device, and, Fig. 2 is a 'longitudinal vertical sectional View taken through the same.
In the practical embodiment of my invention, I provide an elongated relatively narrow tank 1provided with vertical slots 2 in its ends, and extending for a short distance from the upper edge thereof. Ars ranged longitudinally within the tank 1, adjacent the upper edges thereof, and in paral- 'lel relation upon each side of its said slots 2, are perforated pipes 3, to which an inlet pipe 4 is lead, to supply' the same with the washing fluid, said pipes being so arranged as to spray the said washing fluid downwardly and toward one another. The supporting rod 5 is adapted for insertion longitudinally of the tank l, between said perforated pipes 3, and engaging within and resting upon the base of said tank slots 2, said rod 5 being of substantially greater length than the `said tank, whereby the ends thereof project outwardly beyond said tank slots 2, and form handles whereby the saine may be readily placed within, and removed from the said tank. The supporting rod 5 is adapted to receive a print A centrally folded thereover, and hung thereon with its printed surface outermost, to be exposed to the spray from the perforated pipes 5l, when said snpporting rod is inserted in position shown in the drawings.`
In order to readily manipulate the insertion and removal of the print supporting rod 5, I may provide a shaft t5 jou'rnaled through brackets 7 upon one .side of the tank .1,'adja- BLUE-PRINT WASHER.

shaft t3 beyond the ends of saidtank l, aref' sprocket chains t), to the sprocket wheels 1l mounted upon a parallel shaft l0, suitably I journaled above said shaft 6,-whieh chains t) are provided with semicircular cups 12, equid'istantly spaced thereon and adapted rotation of either of said shafts 6 or 10, to
engage the'outwardly projecting ends of the print supporting rods 5, as shown in Fig. 2. Thus by the movement of the sprocket chains l), a print supporting rod may be raised upwardly from the tank l, and after its re moval from saidpchains, another rod carrying a fresh printed sheet, may be placedy in connection therewith, and lowered into said tank byr'everse rotation of said Chains.
-l provide the tank l with av discharge cock or faucet 13,at the base thereof, in order to prevent the same from retaining the washing liquid thrown therein from pipes 3.
ljlaving fully'described my invention, I clalm:
l. In a blueprint washer, the combination of a tank, parallel perforated pipes arranged therein, to spra'y a liquid toward one another, and a print holding member supported between said pipes and adapted for the reception of a print centrally folded thercover, and hung thereon with its printed surface outern'iost, and exposed to the said liquid spray, substantially as described.
ln a blue print washer, the combination ol' a tank, provided with an outlet at the base thereof, parallel perforated pipes arranged therein to spray a liquid toward one a1?- other,"a print holding rod adapted for the reception of a print centrally folded thereover, its printed surface outermost, and means` carried by said tank for supporting said rod therein, between said perforated pipes, substantially' as described.
il. ln a blue print washer, the combination of a tank having an outlet at the base thereof, and provided with vertical slots in its ends at the upper edges thereof, parallel perforated pipes arranged within said tank, extending between the ends thereof at each side of said slots, to spray a liquid toward one another,.a print holding member snpported -Within said tank slots, and having its ends projecting beyond the same, and adapted for the yreception of the print centrally folded t-hereover and hung thereon withv its printed surface outermost and exposed to the Said liquid spray, substantially as described.
I n testimony whereof Igaix" my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I HENRYC. GAWLER. Witnesses: I
