CHARLES ROIBSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BAKER S-OVEN LAMP.
Application filed September 7, 1905.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ci-IARLns RoBsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Bakers Oven Lamp, of which the following is a specification.
Objects of the present invention are to provide a simple, reliable and comparatively inexpensive lamp for lighting bakers ovens; to so arrange and construct the parts of the device that the same can be readily arranged in position for use and are accessible for repairs from the outside of the oven; and to facilitate lighting the device and actuating the hood which is used for covering it when not in operation.
To these and other ends hereinafter set forth the invention, stated in general terms, comprises the improvements to be presently described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which Figure 1, is a perspective view with parts broken away and illustrating a lamp embodying features of the invention. Fig. 2, is a face viewof the lamp. Fig. 3, is a top or plan view illustrating details of construction. Fig. 4, is a plan view, partly in section, taken below the revoluble part of the device, and Fig. 5, is a sectional plan view, drawn to an enlarged scale, of the gas cock.
In the drawings 1, is a housing having a curved end 2, provided with an opening 3, and having a sloping top 4, and an open end 5. This housing contains all the parts of the lamp, as will be described, and it is mounted in the wall of the oven in such a way that the opening 3, is exposed at the interior of the oven, and the opening 5, is
accessible from the exterior of the oven.
\Vithin the housing 1, is arranged a cylindrical casing 6, constituting a lantern and having one-half of its cylindrical surface opaque and the other half fitted with a transparent window as of mica 7. The top and bottom of the cylindrical lantern are slotted as at 8, Fig. 3, and the bottom of the lantern is provided with a pivot mounted in the bracket 9, while the top of the lantern is provided with a pivot 10, mounted in a Specification of Letters Patent.

bearing 11, by means of a pin 12. The bracket 9, and bearing 11, are secured to the top and bottom of the housing 1, and the lantern is rotatable about its vertical axis. By withdrawing the pin 12, the lantern may be readily applied to and removed from the housing 1.
13, is a handle pivoted to a stud 14, depending from the base of the lantern and it affords means for turning the lantern a part of a revolution sufficient to bring the transparent window 7, into and out of alinement with the opening 3.
15, is a burner connected with the up turned end of a gas pipe 16, which is secured to the floor of the housing 1, for example, by means of the keeper 17. The upturned end of the gas pipe as well as the rods 18, which carry the reflector 19, are accommodated by the opening 8, in the base of the lantern.
20, is the gas regulating valve and the shank of its plug is provided with an opening through which freely works the rod 21. The rod 21, is pivoted to the lug 14, so that when the lantern is turned to bring its window opposite the opening 3, the gas is turned on so as to produce a bright light and when the lantern is turned in the opposite direction the gas is turned down to a pilot flame. The pilot flame is produced by means of a bypass groove 22, the effective size of which can be regulated by means of the point of a set screw 23.
If desired the part of the bracket 9, to which the rods 18, are connected may be fitted with an appropriate socket for an electric lamp.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains that modifications may be made in detail without departing from the spirit thereof, hence the invention is not limited further than the prior state of the art may require, but
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A bakers oven lamp comprising the combination of a housing openat one end and having its other end cylindrical and provided with an opening, a cylindrical casing pivotally arranged in the housing and provided with a transparent and an opaque wall, a handle connected with the casing for turning it, an immovable burner having fixed gas connections including a rotary plug valve provided in its shank with a In testimony whereof I have hereunto through opening, and a rod pivoted to the signed my name. casin and slidable throu h the opening 1 T Whergby When the casing is? turned the rod CHARLEb ROBSO1\' 5 slides through the opening in the shank of In the presence oi' the valve plug and turns the latter, substan- O'ms EGAN, tially as described.
