5 PonfriiBLia:. HOUSE. 7
To all whom it may concern: r
Be it known .,..that. I,\ CoUR'rLANo 7V. VYOKOFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Redlands, in the county of San Bernardino and State of California, have invented a new and usefulPortable House, of which the following is .a specification. ,1
This invention relates to roofs for port,
able houses and has for its object to provide a sectional roof of this kind which can be e mdlcated at 19 sufliclently to permit passage readily assembled in position on the house,
and also a novel joint between the sections,-
which will securely fasten them together and which will efiectually prevent leakage.
With these objects in view the invention" consists in a novel arrangement and com-' bination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had'fto the drawing hereto annexed in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a por-. tion of the roof showing the meeting ends of two of the sections, the shingles of one of said sections being shown removed. Fig. the line 22 of 2 is a transverse section on Fig. 1. t V
Referring more particularly to the drawing, each roof section comprises-end strips 5 on which the sheathing-6 is secured and, to the outer surface of thelatter are secured the furring-strips 7 to whichthe-shingles 8 are nailed or otherwise secured. The ends of the sheathing extend flush with the edge of the strips 5 and said strips rest on the rafters 9 when the sections are assembled,
the strips of one section abutting against the strips of the adjacent section, v
To the outer surface ofthe sheathing. 6,
at each end thereof, are securedsheet metal strips 10, which are bent at their longitudinal edges into upstanding flanges 11 and 12 respectively. The flange 12 at one end of the sheathing is made hook-shaped as indicated at 13 and interlocks with the flange 12 of the strip of the adjoining roofsection whereby a standing-seamis formed and a tight joint between the roof-sections is had. The flanged strips alsoform chair-.- nels on opposite sides of the joint to shed Specification of 'Letters Patent Pa,tented Aug-.1 31,. 1909. Application filed November 3, 1908. V

of the heads of the bolt 14, which enables the sections to be readily put on or taken off thehouse; Upon fastening the sections to the rafters the bolts are slipped through the enlarged ends 19 of the slots 15 and pushed to the opposite end of the slot andv into the recesses 16. The plate 17 is then placed under the rafter with the bolts passing therethrough, and upon screwing the nuts 18 home, the sections are securely fastened 1 to therafters. To remove the sections, the nuts andthe plates are removed after which the bolts can be moved to the enlarged end of the slot and withdrawn therethrough, and upon disconnecting the standing seam, the sections can be taken off. To the outer .15, is secured a sheet metal plate 20 to prevent I injury. of the sheathing by the bolt head when the same is drawn tight. The bolt head is covered by the shingles and is therefore completely protected from moisture. What is claimed is 1. In a sectional roof and the rafters supporting the same, means for securing the roof sections, comprising a bolt passing through one of said sections and across the rafter on oneside thereof, a bolt passing through the adjoining roof section and across the said-rafter on the opposite side ,thereof, a plate extending under the rafter through which plate said bolts pass, and nuts screwed on the bolts. 7 t 2. 'A roof comprisin'g separable sections consisting of la sheathing, furring strips se cured thereto and shingles secured to the furring strips; rafters on whichthe sections aresupported and means for securing the sections, comprising boltspassingthrough the" sheathing and connected to the rafters.
3. A roof comprising separable sections consisting of recessed strips, slotted sheathing on said strips, the said slots and recesses surface of the sheathing, adjacent to the slot registering, furring strips secured to r the V sheath ng, and sh ngles secured to the turringf strips"; rafters on which thereof sections are supported, a bolt passing through the slot andrece'sses of one of said-sections,
andecross the rafter on the sidethereof, a bolt passing thronghthe slot and recess ofthe adjoining'roof sections and across said rafteron the opposite side thereof;- a plate extending under the rafter through V V which plate said'bolts pass; andnuts screwed V 54 A roof colnprisingi'separable sections,
said sections consisting of it sheething, furrlngstrlps secured thereto, 811111 168 secured 15 to the furrlng strlps, channeled plates secnre'd tothe outer surface of the sheathing at itslongitndinal edges, and joints between the plates of adjoining sections. Y Intestimony that I claim the foregoing 20 as m own, I have hereto aflixed my signa-
