suPPonT FOR STRETCHERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 31, 1909.
Application filed. February 15, 1909. Serial No. 478,108.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHANN LINXWEILER, whose post-ofiice address is No. 1 Obere Saline, at Bad Kissingen, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Stretchers and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to apparatus for the reception of wounded and invalids, for the purpose of transporting them in open or closed railway carriages, or for keeping them in the open.
One embodiment of the improvements of this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the mounting of the columns of the improved apparatus. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the entire apparatus. Fig. 4 a side elevation thereof. Fig. 5 is a View of the method of suspension of the bearers of the stretchers on cross-bars of the framing of the I 1aqpparatus. Fig. 6 is a view at right angles to a are the columns of the apparatus; they are provided at their lower ends with clips 5, which engage with a bar 0 of U shape in cross-section. The bar a, is adapted to rest on the floor of a railway carriage, or on the ground, and serves to support a pair of columns a. As shown in Flgs. 3 and 4, four columns a are rovided with two corresponding bars a, so t at a pair of columns are supported by a common bar at the head end of the apparatus and a similar pair of columns are supported by a common bar at the foot end of the apparatus. Each clip b of a column a, is fastened on its corresponding bar 0, by means of a pin (Z that passes through the sides of the clip I; and the bar 0, and is attached by its head e by means of a chainf, to the outer side of the bar 0, in such a manner that the pin can be readily drawn out.
Between every two columns a, there extend two cross-bars g which are arranged one above the other, and which serve as a means of suspension of the stretchers h, carrying the invalids. For this purpose the bearers i of the stretchers h, are mounted in loops k, the limbs Z, of which are connected together at their u per ends by means of a cross-piece m. Tile limbs 1 also serve as guides for the movable cross-piece n. A rod 0, is fixed to the movable cross-piece n, and is formed at its upper end in the shape of a hook p. The bar 0, is passed through the cross-piece m, and is encircled by a spiral spring (1, which acts at one end against the crosspiece m, and on its opposite end against the crosspiece n.
The weight of the invalid stretcher h is transmitted by means of the bearers t to the loops k, which arethereby drawn down so as to compress the sprin g. In this manner the Weight of the mva id is supported elastically. The hooks p are hooked over the cross-bars g, and they can be readily removed therefrom.
The two columns of each pair of columns situated at the head andat the foot of the apparatus, are connected together'by means of crossing stays or struts 1", as shown in Fig. 4. The stays r are detachably connected at s to thecolumns a.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In apparatus for the reception of invacolumns arranged at the corners of a rectangle, a transverse bar of U-section su porting two columns at the head end of t e apparatus, a similar transverse bar supporting two columns at the foot end of the apparatus, a clip provided onthelower end of each column and engaging the supporting transverse bar of that column, and a pin for fastening each clip in a removable manner on its transverse supporting bar, substantially as set forth.
2. In apparatus for the reception of invalids and wounded in railway carriages and in the open, the combination of a plurality of columns arranged at the corners of a rectangle, a transverse bar of U-section supporting two columns at the head end of the apparatus, a similar transverse bar supporting two columns at the foot of the apparatus, a clip provided on the lower end of each column and engaging the supporting transverse bar of that column, and a pin for fastening verse supporting bar, Crossbars connecting invalid on the stretcher is borne elastically, the columns at the head end of the appara substantially as set forth. 10 tus, cross bars connecting the columns at the In testimony whereof I allix my signature foot end of the apparatus, hooksengaging in presence of two Witnesses.
