FRED G. ANDREWS, OF CORAOYOLIS, PENNSYLVANIA.
VENTiLfi'ron.
To all yiriQ'r/i 'if may concern.'
Be it known thatI I, FRED G. ANDREWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coraopolis, in the county of Aillegheni7 and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventila'tors, of which the following is a specification, reference being; had thereinI to the aceonii'ianyiiig drawing.
My invention consists in an improvement; in ventilators for o ieiiing and closing iviiidows of residences, Y and has for its objectto provide a colla osible device, capable ot insertion bencatlitlie window, between the runways of the traine thereof, of varying` widths, .constructed and capable ol operation in the manner liercin a't'ter inore particularly described.

Specification of Letters Patent. Application led March 6, 1969.
The essential features ot improvement coni sistin the construction o'l they device, wliei'e by, consisting,` ot' two or more parts it may be separated and packed together in a sniall compass; its adaptation to insertion in any desired or suitable space; moans ioi regulation ot the air currents, etc.
Referring to the drawings:in-Figure l is a view in lroiit elevation ot the lower portion o' a window sash and 'lraiiie sliowini;l tlie invention iii position t'or opera lille'. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line il. ll. ot Fig', I. Fig. 3 is a similar cross .section on the line lll. lll. ot Figi'. l. Fig'. L is a view similar to Fig. l broken away, and illustratii'ig" the' provided with a plurality of air tions in a single. sc-.ftiod larged cross sectional view through both seetions when nested together.
t'lie main .traine of' the structure iis coniposed of two or more piercs and 2 ol device as inlet 1 ori sheet metal, wood or any other 'suitable uia terial, but preferably otl a thin, light, strong iiial'erial, as sheetr metal. 'These bases are. designed to be assciiililed together 'for longitudinal extension or contraction by telescopiiiig en i'apeiiieiit with nach other by means ot the iiil'eriittiiig upper and lower terminal edii'es in any iiiaiilier desired. 'illus iii tliel emistructioii sliowii iii the dt'awingra one ot with a liarli= the bases may he provided wai'dlv lient or rounded bead or .flange .S liaviiigi a reversed edge fiadapted to receive the -laiigrc 5 ol"lie other base 2', while. the,
lower ell-ge ol base 2 may be reversed upon" itsel l as -indicated :it t3 to receive the edge et' partly flanges 1l, 11,' as shown, 'forming tight frictional gagging flanges l1 so that it wi j nient hy arresting abutment l?, able (anistruction.
Patented Aug'. 17, 1908. Serial No. 481,709.
the co-acting hase By this construction,
when the bases are intertitted 'for insertion lieneath the window sash they may he adjustedto fit the width within any reasonableerably covered by al dust arresting structure I ot' any suitable construction, as wire Ganze j l0, preferably curved to the cylindrica outline ot the coping' 7. Atreaeh end the up )er portion of the coping, tor a suilieient, distance around, is provided with retaining y a. slide way for a sectional gate 12, Curved to the radius oit coping i' and adapted to slide therearound. Said gate may malte a sutliciently engagement within the en# y ll be positively held at any desired position when set, and is prevented from undue downiiuird move of any suitlts movement upwardly to completely close the gaining is limite-d by its contact with the troiit tace of base while .its downward movement to completely* open it. is positively arrested loy the ineans- Shown or by any other suitable device. The inain outside proportions of the coping` yond the hase, oilr one of the sections is inide sutliciently smaller than thc proportions ot the coping of its companion base, to admit of the inst tion of the one within the other,
when separated. and asseiiiblet'l as iii the ar` rangement shown iii ["ig. This is a par- 7, preferably of l n v ,l tziciilar tcatiire ot advantageq 'providing tor compact packing' t'or transportation, ete., and is accomplished by the adaptability ot' the copinggs 'lor such iiestiiig" arraiigi'ciiieut. The general cross sectional toria a hewn, is well adapted to such purpose, but it will lie. understood that l do not wish to restricted to the particular cross sectionai construetion Shown, inasmuch as vari-'ius other designs ii'iay be utilized for the sa purpose.
'llie operation of the invention wi l he readily understood troni the 'foregoing doscript-ion.
When the bases are asseiiililed in telescoping engagement with tia-'sli other,
they may be inserted lbetween the edges of the window frame, and adjusted to completely close the transverse space and the window sash lowered thereon. By o enin 5 or closing the gate or gates -12 -any esire amount of .cross sectional circulation space for the incoming air may be provided while the gauze covering 10 prevents the entrance of dust or any foreign matter.
10 I am aware that it isgenerally notnew to provide adjustable ventilators of /dflferent types for insertion beneath -the window sash but do not claim such broadly and Ythe invention is included within the scope of the yl5 y following claim.
What I claim is A ventilator consisting of a plurality of intertting extensible sections rovided with a laterally extending semi-cy indrical cop-A ing having a slidably mounted cover plate, 20 the coping of one ofsaid, bases being of smaller roporti'ons for nesting Within the other, su stantially as set forth. A
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRED G. ANDREWS'. Witnesses C. M. CLARKE, CHAs. S. LEPLEY.
