To all whom 'it 'mag/700mm: i A y Be it known that l, WILLIAM H. TUCKER, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Vernon,.in the Province of British Columbia, Canada,.have invented a new and 'useful lmprovement in Irrigation-Ditch Gutlets, of which the following isa specification. 1'
This inventionrelates to an outlet from an irrigation ditch designed to maintain a constant fiow irrespective of fluctuation in the level ,of the water in the ditch, and also for .the regulation in the amount of such tlow.`
These results are attained by .sup orting the mouth ofthe. outlet pipe'on a oat in the ditch, which outlet pipe is flexibly connected to the outlet delivery; and by providing means, in the attachment of the outlet pipe tothe float, for vthe vertical adjustment of the outlet in relation to the Water level.
l The invention is particularly described in the following specification, reference being made to the drawings by which it is accompanied, in which:
Figure 1 is a cross section of an irrigation ditch or lchannel showing my floating outlet therein, one side of the float being removed to reveal the outlet pipe, and, Fig. 2, a cross section orf the outlet pi e and float showing its attachment to the oat.
ln these4 drawings Qrepresents the water level in the irrigatlon4 ditch, 3 being the delivery pi e t o a subsidiary channel which it is desir to serre.- This delivery' pipe 3 is toward -the bottom of the ditch and is con nected to a oatable outlet pipe 5 by a length. of hose l or by other flexible means.
The outlet pipe 5 ma be sustained by a fioatable bod of any orrn that will hold the pipe pre crab! in a horizontal position at or near the leve of t-h'e water in the ditch andthat will permit o the pipe being lifted out of the water or immersed in it to any de,
sired amount, This is, preferably done as between two hollow floats 6 which are conquired amount. I
In order to raise and lower the pipe horizontally l suspend it from a yoke 8 which connect the two floats 6 t ether by' means of two links 7, secured to t vepipe 5' and by pins 9 to angle irons or brackets 10 on, the yokes, the links 7 being provided with alsuccession of pin holes for adjustment of the level of the outlet pipe in rela tion to the float, and these links 7 may be graduated" 'to indicate the amount in inches of water which will pass through the pipe at the various positions. The adjustment may he protected by a hinged. cover 1l 'K .which may be locked to prevent interference,
or a wire rod may be passed through the ends of the pins 9 and be locked to prevent such interference.
The mouth ofthe outlet pipe 5 may be guarded againstythe entrance of oating matteiin the ditch by a board 12 across the ends of the float.
l do not desire to he confined to the par ticular construction of the float and the manner of attachment of the pipe thereto, as such may be varied to suit the requirements of manufacture.
AHaving now particularly described my invention and its application, l hereby declaro that what l claim as new and desire to he protected in'hy Letters Patent, is:
hln an outlet t'or an irrigation ditch, the combination with an outlet delivery pipe situated below the levelv of the water in the ditch, of an outlet mouth pipe suspended horizontally-between two connected hollow `iloats, for adjustment of the mouth pipe in relation to the float said means comprising links pin connected tothe mouth pipe and to the yoke connecting the floats,l said links being provided witha series` of pin holes or adjustment of the pipe vertically in relation to the tioat, means for pro-v tecting the adjustment from interfei'en, and means for protecting the mouth of the pipe from floatable matter in the ditch.
2. ln an outlet for an irrigation ditch, the
combination with an outlet delivery pipe situated below the level of the waterin the '-ditch, of an outlctmnnth pipe, a pair o -liol and a :grd board dispose E. oeoos suported by cher yoke of said oats for 'ngigsaid outlet; mouth (npe in oston,
across me ends of sai floats and across the inlet to said outlet mouth pipe, and .an adjustable connection ybetveen said outlet', mouth pipe and sailgutletfglelively pipe.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to khis specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
WILLAM, HENRY TUCKER.
