Bc it kiioxiui that I, FREDRICK B. ADAM, a citizen ol' the United States, residingA at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement" in, Panel-Board Cabiin-its, of which the following is a fullV clear, and exact description, such as enable others skilled in the art-to which it nppertains to make and use the saine,- referencebeing had te 4the accompa ing drawings, forming part of this spec' cation, in
-Figure 1v is a sectional viewshowing my improved panel board cabinet in operative position in the wall of abuilding; Fig'. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of a portion of the cabinet, the-panel board and the frame or.
lining'of the panel'board; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on approximately the line 34-3 ofl Fig. 2;and Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken ap roximately on the line 4-'4 o'f Fig. 3.
his invention relates to panelboards or switch boards that are used for distributing electric service, and particularl f` to that type vifhich are arranged ipside of .a )ox or casing,
commonly termed a panel board cabinet,
that is embedded in the wall of'a building.
vide a.
The main object of my invention is to pro,-
anel board cabinet Which-is so constructe that the panel beardiarrangedinside of same can be a sted inwardly or out- Wardly, and' thiis bring the outer edge of the panel board/'frame or lining flush with the outer su'riacc 'of the wall in which-the '.abi'net is embedded. And smother object of my inyentlion is to provide novel means for holdmg the ieces that constitute the lining or 4frame o la panel board inoperative osition relatively to each other, and also tot e panel board.
Briefly described, myeinveiitiou consists of a panel boardv cabinet that is'adapted to be embedded 'or set into the wall of a building,
supports'arranged inside of said cabinet, and
devices adjiistably connected to .said 'sup ports and having a panel board fastened4 thereto. approximately angle-.shaped members-connected tothe rear Wall of 'the cabinet and arranged at the four corners' ofy the panel board, and Iiiieanis4 is provided for Vclanziping the piecesthat constitute theflinin o r freinent.
the panel boardto these'allifgle cned' comer' supporte.
'consist of an le-shaped cast metal mem The snpports preferably consist of 'said clamping". `b0ltq114 that passes outwardly through the Referring to the drawings which illustrate the preferred form of my invention, A desire,
nates :the panellboard cabinet which preferably consists of a rectangular-shaped metal 'box that is adapted'to be embedded into the Wall 'of a building, thesides of said box being provided atlthcir outer edges with laterally projecting'llanges 1., as .shown in Fig. 1. If desired, howeven, the box A can be formed of Wood and lined With metal, as the articular construction ofthe box or cabinet .isimma terial so far as my broad idea is concerned.
'lhe main advantage of a construction of thecharacter above referred to isthat it enables the panel board and its lining or frame to be moved inwardly and outwardly relatively to the cabinet A and thus bring the outer edge of the lining 4 into intimate engagement with the facing or wooden frame B which is arranged on the outer face of the wall in which the cabinet is embedded.
In devices Yof this character' which have heretofore been in 'general use the panel board was rigidly connected to the cabinet so that it was impossible to always set the cabinet in exactly the roper .osition to bring the outer edge of tiie pane Aboard. lining or frame flush with the outer surface of the wall in which the 4cabinet was embedded. M y im roved construction overcomes this diiiicu ty for the panel ,board is carried by adjustable supports that enable it to be moved inwardl and outwardly, and thus bring the outer c( ge of its frame orlining flu-sh with the outer surface of the wall'in which the cabinet is embedded, itA being immaterial whether or not the outer edge oi' the cabinet lies Hush with the outer surface of the wall of the building.
Another desirable feature of my improved construction is that it clamps the frame or lining 4 of the panel board in position without usin screws that pass through said linin w rich is generally formed of slate or marl) e. And -still another very desirable feature of my improved construction is that it is compact,` it presents a neat and ornamental a pearance, and it can be manufactured at a ow cost.
While I have herein stated that the. corner members are connected to the rear wall .of a
t panel hoard carrying devices are adjustably connected could or to an other suitablc supporting device on thc wal oi thc buildlug. v
