TOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 16, 1908.
Patented July 20, 1909.
Serial No. 421,571.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SAMUEL GROPPER and GODFREY P; SCHMIDT, citizens of the United States, residing at the borough of Manhattan, New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
Our invention relates to improvements in tops, more particularly it has reference to the peg and bearing of the top.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, the figure is a vertical elevation partly in section of a top showing one form of our invention.
Referring to said figure, 5 is the peg of the top provided with an upwardly projecting cup 3 conforming to the lower extremity of the body 2 of the top. On the interior of said cup are provided the teeth 4 so that when the peg and its cup are forced upon the body of the top, the teeth 4 engage and retain the same securely in position.
The
lower portion of the peg of the top is formed with a cavity to receive and provide bearing for the ball 6, and after the ball has been placed in position the rim of the cavity is compressed slightly to retain the ball in place.
Various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a top, a body portion and a cup shaped peg, a series of projections from the interior of said cup shaped peg pointing into the same and being adapted to engage and retain said body portion when said peg is forced into place and a ball in the end of and held by said peg.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL GROPPER. GODFREY P. SCHMIDT. Witnesses LOUIsE ENDERLE, THOMAS A. HILL.
