' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD T. ROBINSON, on ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR'TO ST. LOUIS OAR COMPANY, OF
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION. l
Be it known that I, EDWARD T. Ron'nisou,
a citizen of the United States of America,"
residing at the city of St. Louis,in the State ofMis souri, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Door Hangers and Guides, of which the following is a full,
- clear,.and exact description, reference being had .to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My inventionrelatesfto anew and useful improvement in door hangers and guides and 1s esi ned particularly or use in vestibule doors or passenger cars.
. The object ef the invention is to support and, where sectional doors: are employe gulde .the door'section farthest away from the'section which is hinged to a post adjacent to the door '0 ening, in such manner that the weight of the plurality of door sections. is not entirely carried by the hinges which support the doors'on the posts justmentione Figure I is a horizontal section of I a per-- tion of a vestibule of a car showin my inventlon applied thereto. Fig. II is a side elevation, partly broken away, of a portion of the vestibule of a car together. with my invention applied thereto. F i III is a perspective v1ew of'a portion 0 a door, my
; improved hanger and a portion of a su'pport ing and guidlngrail employedin carrying out my invention.
A' designates the vestibule of a car which is provided with a door gpenin at one side, said door openin being orme between the platform B and t e hood C and the platform post D and the corner post E of the car opening. This door opening is designed to be closed by means of afplurality of hinged door sections 1, 2, 3 and 4, the former of whlch is'hinged at its inner edge to the platform post D, while the section 2 is hinged at its outer edge to section 1, section-3 1s hinged at its inner edge to section 2 and section 4 is hinged at its outer edge to section 3, the hinged connection between the various-sections being so arranged that the door can be folded compactly at the inner side of the platform post D into the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. I. That is, that they can be folded face to face and occupy a minimum amount of space.

guide rail against the latform Patented June 29, 1909.
. gulde rail 4 is provided with a vertical longitudinal slot 7 extending from the corner post E to the arm 5.
8 designates a "T-hanger secured to the door 4, and provided with a plurality of rollers, preferably threein number.. One of these rollers 9, is vertically disposed and is designed'to operate in the slot 7 of the rail 5 while the other two rollers 10 -10 are horizontallydisposed and rest, and are designedto ride upon the upper face of the rall 5 at eachside of the slot 7.
It will be seen from the construction just described, that when the door proper which is composed of the hinged sections, is opened to the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. I, of the drawing, that the ,door sections are guided to that positlonand that the hinges which secure the section 1 to the platform post D are relieved'of a great portion of the weightof the door proper, by the guide and supporting rail 5 through the instrumenta ity of the hanger 8, and that the rollers 9 and 10-10 make the cooperation between the hanger and .rail antifrictional.
-Iclaim:
The combination, with avestibule having a door opening, a corner post'at one side, and a platform post at'the other side of the opening; of a graduallycurved guide rail track which is arranged above the door sec-' having a transverse arm at one end and a longitudinal slot extending from the corner post to thearm,-and secured to the vestibule over the opening, and a sectional door hinged to the latform at one end and provided with a'l' is $11 ported and guided by the guide rail to a f0 ded condition beneath the arm of the EDWAR T.
