GUSPIDOR. APPLICATION PILD 001225, 1907.
Patented Juu 22 l useful Improvements 4prcvements in 'lace of the licor.
UNITED STAES PATENT @FFICE AUGUST EGGENIIOFIERv OI' ZANESVILLE, OHIO.
CUSIID R.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Beit known that I, AUGUST. Eeonnnornn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Zanesville, in 'the county oi Muskingum and State oi Ohio, have invented certain new and in Cuspidors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
' clear, and exact description of the invention,
such 'as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful imself-cleaning, sani-tary cuspidors, and rnv object is to provide means for automatically directing a stream. of water through the cuspidor with each removal of the cover therefrom. y
A further object is to so locate the cuspidor in the floor as to cause the least obstruction.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter rel'erred to and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings which are 4made a part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cuspidor applied to use and showing the cover therefor in its open position, and, Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the manner ol securing the cover to the valve stem.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the bowl ol' my improved cuspidor, which is preferably semi-globular and provided around its upper edge with a flange i.
the bowl being preferably entered through l an opening-in the floor 3 ol' a room, the upper surface of the floor h ving a recess' Il therein to receive the ilange 2, thereby disposing the upper face of theiiange flush with the upper Une section of the bowl 1 is provided with a rib 5, which is adapted to hold the bowl against rotating movement.
A drain ipe 6 is secured to the lower end of the bow manner, said pipe being bent in tie usual manner to 'lorin a seal lor the drain pi e.A A service pipe 7 is also connected to the owl 1 and at a point adjacent its upper edge, the pipe 7 preferably entering thebowl at a tangent to the axial center ot' ,the bowl, so that the water 4will be thrown around the edges of the bowl and, to insure that the water will engage the entire inner surface of the bowl, a'
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 26, 1907.
1 in the 4usual or any preferred- Patented .Tune 22, 1909. sei-iai No. 399,'318. c
In operation, when a person wishes to eX- peetorate, the cover .11 is swung laterally' from over the bowl, by engaging the knob 13 and prelerablywith the loot, the o eration of swinging the cover, opening the va ve 9, so
j that the water from the servico pipe will llow in to the bowl, the water con tinulng t'o llow as long as the cover is open. As soon, however, as the cover is again closed, or placed over the bowl, the valve 9 will be closed and the flow of the water into the bowl sto ped and it will be readily seen that by so rushing the cuspidor, the saine will be thoroughly sanitary and it will further be seen that by placing the saine through the floor, as shown 1n the drawing, said cuspidor will present practically no obstruction in the room.
What I claim is: 1
The herein described euspidor incorpo-- rated into a loor, comprising a bowl member, said bowl member having a vertical rib integral with the outer Alace thereof and adapted to engage parts of said floor and hold said bowl against rotation, a pipe 'lor conveying water into the upper edge vof said bowl and directing the saine at a tangent to the vertical axis of the bowl, a' valvelocated in the len th of said pipe having an upwafdly eX- i name to this spefeavon in the presfnce of mim ed Elem protruding thlugln saicloor, i two subscbng Wtnasses. c osure ed m said stem W ere W en sai TT Tm T closure is swung laterally the Vglve will be UGUST muEhHoFE 5 opened or closed, and a drain pipe connected Witnesses:
to said bowl. HERMAN ACHAUER.,
In testimony whereof l have signed my C, M. LUDMAN,
