SHCE-TREE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Julie 1809 Application filed April 27, 1908. Serial No. 329,503.
To all whom it may cancer 36 it known that we, WILLIAM DIWIIJJER and FREDERICK WfGoWAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massahave invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Shoe-Trees and We do declare the followin and exact description or the invention 'such will enable others skilletl in the art to which it np oerlnins to make and use the same.
This invention relates to shoe trees, and has for its object to provide an improved form of adjustable connections between the fore and heel parts of the tree.
vIn the annexed drawing forming. a, part of this specification in which like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views and which are for illustrative purposes and therefore not drawn to any particular scale, Fi ure 1 is a side view of one -form of shoe tree; Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the some; Figv 3 is it iongitudinolv horizontal sectional view; Fig" "l is a longitudinal, vertical sectional View, parts lacing folded; Fig. 5 n loiwitutlinel. horizontal sectional view of a nin ificetion, the .urts being citentlctlf and Fig, 6 in a longitudinal, vertical sectional View of u modification, jun-ts being" Fol-led.
Referring more particularly to the Figs.
1 and 4; of the drawing, ihe invcntion is shown emhotlietl in a shoe tree having a, for- It hccl portion L Ward portion 1 anti Tli icse incmhcrslmny he nmtic o celluloid or may he made of canvas inn;- cg uitcd with ceiluloitl or other stiffening material which may be spread upon, prcsecil into or moltlctl u pon said ca nvns. The. forward portion l is shaped to 0021- form to the tlcsirml contour, the lower ctlges 7 and terminntetl to leave rm opening 9 almost the entire area of the sole of the shoe. This permits the access of aJir through the rear part, of the forward are of the holder, thus rcuclil; drying out t e shoe when the holder is in plaice.
The loiver rear port of the lower edges of the forward par 1 are nearly brought together as at 3 and are connected by a lo\vnvmrdly opening U shopotl member 2 having laterally extending ends riveted or otherwise secured to the etlge oi? the forenart as th 3. .Pivotally secured in said U shaped to be a full, clear,

The modification shown Figs. 5 and t; is similar to that shown cept that the inner edge is PIOVldGCl with n hintln metal 15 anti :1 Wooden hall place oi the heel urt 2. v if tlcsirech the lat rally ii-ejecting entls 55 may he provitlc-rl with :1 forwardly proj ing part w \vhol'ei'iy. l

1. In it shoe tree a few part comprising a picee of stiff meteriah forming the upper part of said fore part, the lower edges being turned inwardly and cut nwey whereby an 1 opening s left extending across the sole of said fore part the rear ends of said edges being brought ztl'inost together, an inverted U shaped member having laterally projecting ends riveted to said edges, a forward bar section pivotally connected between the arms of said U shaped member, said her being provided with a plurality of perforations, a rear bar section having a lateral projection adapted to engage certain of said perforattions, and provided with e lengitudinel slot. at clemplng bolt adapted to through said slot and one of said. perferstions, a, nuten end of said rear he! section.
2. A shoe tree ernnpi'ising a fare part and a heel part, a connecting bar for-med in seetionsione of which is provided with e ionin the inner ends of one of said sections and adapted to engage the slot in said other section whereby the fore and heel parts of the. tree are adjust-ably connected together, and lateral PIOJCCUODS on the ends of said seetiuns to engage the slots and perforations in the op iosing sections whereby said sectiens of the er are held in rigid slinement.
in testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
