When the wear-plate is provided with shoulders through which the fastening bolts,

` In Figs. 7, 9 and 10, the clips 6 are shown in connection with the filling or spacing tening, it is of particular value for use in conl nection with tra-ok on curves. l may employ a structure ofthe type illustrated in my patent of December l5, 1906,7 before referred to for securing one rail, and a fastening of any of the types hereinbefore described and shown in the accompanying drawings for the other rail.

A rail fastening comprising a wear-plate suitably secured to a tie, and eli s carried by said wear-plate adapted to over ie the flange of a rail and secured to said wear-plate, said wear-plate having shoulders 'and the clips having portions disposed between the flange Y of the rail and the shoulders -of the wearplate, said clips being of different dimensions whereby ateral movement ofthe rail is l provided for when said clips are adjusted.
A railfastening comprising a wear-plate secured. to a tie, said wear-plate having shoulders on each end which shoulders are apertured, clips carried by the wear-plate and overlying the flange of the rail, said clips being secured by fastening means passing through the apertured shoulders of the wearplate, said clips being of different dimensions whereby lateral-adjustment ofthe rail is provided for when said clips are interchanged,

l l l 4r The combination, in a rail fastening, of wear-plato having beveled shoulders at the sides of the same paralleling the rail, a rail plates, comprising a clip arranged to engage mounted on said wear-plate and having a base less in Width than the space, between the shoulders of the wear-plate, clips for securing said rail to the wear-plate, said clips being shaped to lie on the shoulders of the wearplate, and means for holding said clips to the wear-plate and the latter to the tie.

The combination, in a rail fastening, of a tie, a wear-plate mounted upon said tie and having shoulders, a rail mounted upon said .wear-plate, means for securing said wearplate to the tie, clips engaging the shoulders of the wearlate and the base flanges of the rail and designed to hold the latter to thc wear-plate, and a removable filling piece retained in place by one of said cli s and disposed between the base flange of t e rail and one of the shoulders of the wear-plate.
6. 'As a new article of manufacture, a'rail fastening for use with shouldered wearthe top pf t e rail flange and the shoulder of the plate, and a filling piece interposed between the clip and the side of the rail flange.
7. The combination of a tie, an adjustable, wear-plate mounted, thereon, shoulders carried by said wearlate, interchangeable clips carried by said p ate and serving to hold a rail in different positions with respect thereto, said clips bein interposed. -between, said shoulders and t e flanges of the rail, and means for securing said clips to the wearplate.
8. A rail fastening comprising a metal rail support, clips carried by said support and secured thereto for engagement with the flanges of a rail, said support having shoulders, and the clips having portions disposed between the flanges of the rail and the shoulders of its support, said clips being of (liderent dimensions and interchangeable with rcspeot to the rail and its support 'whereby lateral movement ofthe rail is provided for when the position of said clips is transposed.

A rail fastening comprising a shouldered wear-plate suitably secured to a tie, interchangeable clips carried by said wearplatc adapted to engage the shoulders of the same and overlie the flanges of a rail, 'and means forI securing said clips to the wearplate, said clips being of different dimensions whereby lateral movement of the rail islprovided for y shifting said clips.
10. As a new article of manufacture, a rail fastening for use with wear-plates, comprising a clip arranged to engage a rail flange, and ascparablc filling picceinterposed between the ilip and said rail flange.
