JOHN WINDLE MARSH, OF CANON CITY, COLORADO.
FLOORING-JACK.
Be it known that I, JOHN WINDLE MAnsr-r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canon City, in the county of Fremont and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Flooring-Jack, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to floor and siding clamps, and has for its object to provide a simple, e'l'licient, and easily operated device of this kind.
The invention comprises a base-plate having serrations, a rack-bar slidably mounted on said base-plate and stormed at its outer end with a cross-bar to engage the part to be clamped. A toothed segment engageable with the cross-bar, and having an o crating lever, is provided, as well as a pawl -'or holding the rack in clamping position. The pawl is provided with a finger piece whereby it may be'lifted to release the rack-bar, and said finger piece is also arranged so that it may be used for retracting the rack-bar.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a'perspective View of the device. Fig. 2 is a centrallongitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 5 denotes a base-plate, having on opposite sides upstanding flanges 6 provided with guide slots 7, in which is slidably mounted a rack-bar 8 carrying at its outer end a crosspie'ce 9, the outer face or": which is grooved engthwise, as indicated at 10. The purpose of this groove is to receive the tenons of the flooring ii the device is used as a fioor clamp.
The rack-bar is operated by a toothed segment .11 pivoted at 12 between the flanges 6, and provided with a hand lever 18. In a recess 15 made in the rack-bar is slidably mounted a gravity pawl 16, provided with a finger piece 17. The recess has a reduced Specification of Letters Patent.

portion 18 through which the finger piece of the pawl extends. The pawl is engageable with transverse serrations or teeth 19 formed on the floor of the baseplate. The finger piece 17 rises from the rack-bar a sufficient distance and is shaped so that it may be readily taken hold of to operate the pawl and also to retract the rack-bar. The lever 13 is set off to one side of the toothed segment, so that it will clear the finger piece of the pawl, and said finger piece also serves as a stop to limit the outward movement of the rack-bar by engaging the toothed segment.
At the rear end of the base-plate are depending rearwardly directed spurs 20 "for anchoring the device.
What I claim is:
1. A floor and siding-clamp comprising a serrated base-plate having upstanding side flanges, a raclebar slidably mounted between said flanges, a toothed segment pivoted between the flanges and engageable with the rack, a lever connected to the toothed seg ment on one side thereof, and a pawl engageable with the serrations of the baseplate, and provided with a finger piece rising from the rack-bar, said finger piece being in the path of the segment.
2. A floor and siding clamp comprising a base-p1ate having guides, a rack-bar mounted on said plate between the guides, a pawl and-ratchet locking-mechanism for the rackbar, a toothed segment pivotally mounted on the base plate, and engageable with the rack, and a lever on the segment, set to one side thereof, to clear the pawl when thrown into operating position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN "WINDLE MARSH.
