PHOTOGRAPHIG DRY-PLATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25, 1909.
Application filed September 19, 1906. Serial No. 335,659.
'o all whom it fmer/y concern.'
Be it known that I, Louis Il'UssoN, a eitizen of the United States, residingr in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new` and use'l'ul Photographie Dry-Plate, ol' which the fol lowing is a specilication.
My invention relates to improvements in photographic dry plates adapted for printing in different colors and its object is to rendci' the plates more sensitive. to particular colors with the addition oi' certain dye colors without the employment of color screen ray iilters, as heretofore.
The invention consists in the employment ol' a repellent on the surface ol a gelatin bromid plate whereby I ain enabled to coat such plate with an extra value color without interfering with the working power of the light in exposing suoli plate nor in any manner-with the developingr or tinting;r of the plate, the colors I eniplo beingr adapted to disappear with the regulhr Working of the plates.
Figures 1 and 2 represent l'ace views of opposite sides of plates that may be employed 1n carrying out my invention, and in which- A designates a plate of `glass or other suitable transparent material on which is a sensitized coating B, which generally is of a very light blue color, C a repellent on said coating B, the saine being colorless like Water, and D a coating of coloring material, which may be red, green, etc., the same being' on the repellent, the latter servinpY to pre-v vent admixture of the coatings B and l).
In carryinbgl out my invention, I take a or isochromatic plate or any ordinary gelatin bromid plate sensitive to one or several colors. p I coat this plate first with a repellent made of Wax, spermaceti, paralln, stearic acid or the like dissolved in' a volatile liquid such as a benzin, benzole, ether or the like. The function of the repellent is to prevent the second color solution, to be applied later, from mixing with the gelatin broinid plate. When the coating is dry, I rub the plate with cotton absorbent or chamois skin and thus 4volatile. liquid with polish the same.
'lhe plate is now coated with a coloring' solution appropriate to the deepness ol' the color desired on the plate, such solution being composed ol' coloring matter dissolved in alcohol, ether, acetone or other suitable or glycerin to increase the body thereof, the solution reii'iaining on the surface ol' the absolutely dry plate producing two distinct coatings, the resultant plate permitting a perl'ect action ol' light therethrough and bcin g` adapted l'or nakingV negatives ol' objects ol' all sorts lor the three colored lial'll tone process made on metal, Al'or transfers on stone or l'or the collotype process. f
The p relerable color solution l'orinula eiii ployed is as follows:-al oliol (95%) i drani, liquid glucose, ounces, or glycerin l ounces, anilin colors (about) 6 gr. Mix at from 90 to 100O Fahrenheit. Then add orvanic acid such as citric, acetic, forniic acid oi' the like until blue litmus paper turns red. After having' the repellent put on the plate as described coat the plate very evenly with the above solution and dry in gyratingr machine.
I am also enabled to shorten the exposureso as tomake portraits practically from lil'e with three, l'our or five dill'erent negatives.
Having" thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure b v Letters Patent, is
1. A photographic plate having' a plurality' of coatings, a portion composed of a repellent and another portion composed ofa coloring' solution.
2. A photographic plate coated with. a re ellent composed ol' ivaX, and a coloring so ution com osed of coloring matter dissolved inavo atileliquid. l
3. A photographie plate coated with a re ellent composed of wax, and a coloring' so ution composed of coloring inatter'dissolved in a volatile liquid and material to increase the body of the solution.
