To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN M. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Wcbb (lily. Jasper county, Missouri, have invented an lmprovcmcnt in Ore-Separators, of which the following is a specitication.
My invention is an improvement in orcseparators of the type commonly known as jiggers, and in which a vertically oscillating plunger is employed for forcing water up through orc resting upon a sieve or grate.
My invention is embodied in a cheap and simple attachment for jiggers of this class, the some comprisin a metal. box of the form and construction adapted for inscrtion and use in a jig box, and having a horizontal top formin the overflow line and a series of horizonta slots, and a slidable gate provided with corresponding slots and a nut and screw for adjusting suclrgate as reuircd to vary the size of the openings or s ots through which the ore is discharged.
The invention further consists in vroviding such metal box with a removab e portion which is providedwith the aforesaid slots .and with a socket or guide-way for the slidable gate.

A. indicates the metal ore-discharge box which forms part of my invention,and B the side portions of the frame or box of an ore-separator of the type indicated. As shown in Fig. 6, a vertically oscillating plunger C, operated by, an eccentric D is arranged in a side compartment of the 0x or separator frame B, and the box A, before referred to, is arranged in the opposit'or adjoining compartment. There is nothing lei now in the arrangement of these parts so far as described.

In practice, a wedge is inserted at one end of the box, for holding it more securely in place, but its own gravity is practically sullicicnt for the purposc. The box is made. of such lengths as to be a pplicablc for ore-separators of this class which may be constructed in different dimensions.

The gate is an elongated metal bur fitted somewhat loosely in the guidcway 3 and held therein by means of lugs 14, which are. cast on the body of the guide I) and project over the groove or guideway 3, as shown in several fi ures. The gate F works in a slot. formed in the frame B, a stuliingbox 5 being provided at that point as shown in Fig. 1, in order to prevent the escape of Water from the box. The end of the gate is provided with a screw stcm 'd, which works in a not 7 whose re duced portion is held rotatably in a bracket 8, that is attached by bolts 9 to the outer side oiithe'box or frame B. My invention is desi ed particularly for use in jiggers emplo e in fthe separation of lead and zinc ores w ieh are mined in southwestern Missouri. Ore boxes of this general character are in general provided with rotary valves having a slot extending their entire len h or with vertically adjustable valves, but of which are open to objection, chiefly on account of obtrusion of pieces of ore beneath them. With a gate or cut-oi! slidable horizontally, adjustment is never interfered with or prevented and the same vertical de th of the discharge openings remains at al times. The fine particles of the ore fill the slight eracks or spaces around the box proper and the gate F so that it is often extremely difiicult to move either when required. Hence, I have found that a lever as a means for adjustin the gate is far inferior to the screw attac ment which I have rovided and which is perfectly efficient. ihe passage of the ore throug li the openings 2 wears that portion of the boinmore or less and consequently replacement of the box by a new one is sooner or later required. To avoid the expense of replacing the entire box, I have provided it with the removable te holder and guide E, the same being an e ongated rectangular frame-piece havm tenons at the ends which enter vertica grooves in the ends of the box proper. A lighter screw, as shown and descrl by first removing the gate I", that is to say, by withdrawi it out through the slot in the lefthand si e of the ore box B, the frame E may be raised and thus lifted entirely free of the body of the box and a new one of similar construction and size may be inserted in its place.
It will be seen that in order to provide an ore separator or more particularly its box B with my ore discharging box A constructed as before described, it is only necessary to apply cleats 1 oneguivale'nt supports to the ol-pposite sides B o the jigger and todrop t e box A into place, the to F of the same having been first remov Then, the gate having been reinserted, the bracket 8 and plate 11 are bolted in place and the nut screwed on the gate stem 6 and secured'to the bracket by a small nut 15.
What I claim is:
1. The improved attachment 'for ore-jigge e of the class indicated comprising a metal box having a horizontal top adapted to serve as an overflow line, an inclined bottom and parallel vertical ends, and provided with a horizontal groove forming a guideway for a gate and having slots formed in such ve and whose lower sides are horizonta the interior of the box being thus closed to influx from the overflow and adapted to maintain discharge at a uniform level; a slidable gate provided with a screw stem, a hand nut applied thereto and a bracket supporting suc nut and means for securing the bracket to the frame of the jigger, as shown and described;
2. The improved attachment for ore-jiggers of the class indicated comprising a metal box having a horizontal top adapted to serve as an overflow line, an inclined bottom and parallel vertical ends, and provided with a horizontal groove forming a guideway for a gate and having slots formed in such move and whose lower sides are horizonta the interior of the box being thus closed to influx from the overflow and adapted to maintain dischar e at a uniform level; a slidable gate arrang more or less and means for ,adjusting said REUBEN M.
