WITNESSES UNITED PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB P. HOLTZHOUSER, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO 'lI-IE STANLEY WORKS, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OI" CONNECTICUT.
DOOR-BOLT OR DOOR-HOLDER.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB I. HOLTZ- HoUsER, a citizen ol' the United States, and a resident of New Britain, in the county ol Hartford and State oll Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in DooreBolts or Door-IIolders, oll which the following is a specification.
The object ol' the invention is to produce a device ol' the character described having leatures of novelty and advantage.
In the drawings--li`igure l is a l'ront view of the device. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation. Fig. 3 is an elevation on the line 3 3 ol' Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings a is the casing having the barrel a/ and attaching flanges a2 c2.
l) is a tubular bolt movable longitudinally in the barrel. The barrel is slotted as at c3 to receive the lever e which is pivoted therein and has a tripping projection e. This lever is L-shaped and passes through a slot b in the bolt and extends downwardly therein, having a hole c2 Yl'or attachment of a spring s which at its other end is attached near the lower end of the bolt. On the front edge ol' the downturned portion oll the lever is a shoulder b3 which is adapted to engage with the lower edge b oi the slot b in the bolt to hold the bolt in its extended position. Il' it is desired to lock the bolt at a point intermediate ot its full throw an aperture b5 may be Vformed just below the lower edge olI the slot b as illustrated.
It will be noted that a single spring is utilized to engage the lever with the bolt to hold the bolt in extended position and also to re turn the bolt to normal position when the shoulder on the lever is disengaged :from the bolt.
This construction provides a strong, light door bolt, inexpensive to manufacture and simple in its construction and operation.
I claim as my invention 1. An article of the character described comprising a casing, a tubular bolt movable longitudinally therein and having an engaging shoulder, a lever pivoted in said casing and extending into said bolt and having a Specification of Letters Patent.

projection adapted to engage said shoulder on the bolt, and a spring connected at one end with said lever and at the opposite end with said bolt.
2. An article of the character described comprising a casing, a tubular bolt movable longitudinally therein, a lever pivoted in said casing and extending into said bolt, interengaging parts on said bolt and lever, a spring connecting said lever with said bolt, and means for disengaging said inter-engaging parts on said lever and bolt.
3. In an article of the character described the easing, a tubular bolt movable longitudinally therein, registering openings through said bolt and casing, an L-shaped lever pivoted in said casing and extending downwardly in said bolt, a projection on the front side of the downwardly projecting part ol said lever, a shoulder on said bolt adapted to engage with said projection, and a spring connected at one end with the lower end of said bolt and at its opposite end with the tail ot' said lever, and a tripping device for said lever extending outside of said casing, substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
4. An article of the character described comprising a easing, a bolt movable longitudinally therein, a lever pivoted in said casing, intel-engaging parts on said lever and said bolt, and a spring connecting said lever and said bolt whereby said lever is held in its engaging )osition and said bolt is returned to norma position upon disengagement of said interengaging parts.
5. An article of the character described comprising a casing, a bolt movable longitudinally therein, a lever pivoted in said casing and having one end extending into said bolt, interengaging parts on said lever and bolt, and a common means for holding said lever in its engaging position and for returning said bolt to its normal position when it is released.
