MACHINE COMPANY, OF HARTFORD CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent .N 91,889, dated .Tune 29, 18d9.
IMPROVED METALLCORRUGATING' MACHINE.
The Schedule'rferred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES B.WrLLrAMs, of Glas;
tenbury, county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in-Metal-Corrugating Machine; and to enable others skilled vin the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation, reference being had to the drawings, in which the -sarne letters indicate like parts in each of the h'gures'.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure l is a side elevation.
Figure 2 is au inside end View.
Figure 3 is an explanatory View of the head of the machine. l
a are the legs which support the machine.
b are guide-ways.
cis a table or bed, upon which the metal sheets are placed to be acted uponv by the machine-mechanism.
d is abar arranged between. the guide-ways b, so as to be elevated by the joint action of the levers e through i the arms f.
g are circular depressions or grooves, formed in the heads h.
t' are compressing-bars, having circular guides j, formed or secured upon the ends of said bars, the object of which is to tirmly hinge the ends of the bars "i in the grooves g.
The edges 1:,ot' these bars, are made of suchshape as to t closely up to the side of, and near the upperedge ot' bar Ihe sheet of metal is rst inserted or placed upon the bed-plate c', over the bar d, while the oscillating bars lil are in au elevated position then the crimpingbar d, is lifted against the under side of the `metal sheet, by means of the levers e, which are heldin auV elevated position by means of the notched arms m1,'.
then the bars i are turned down by the levers -n on to the hed-plate, and firmly against the metal, thus forming an elevation the shape of the upper portion of the bar d, and firmly compressed thereto; then the oscillating bars are elevated into their resting position, and the crimping-bar d is dropped to its level with the bed, and is then ready for a new operation.
Thus I am enabled to forni one corrugation after another, in quick succession, and at any desired point or angle uponthe sheet, thus reducing the mechanism of a corrugating-machiue to a state of great simplicity,
and enabling the operator to produce perfect work in a short amount of time.
I believe I have thus shown the nature, construction, and advantage of this invention, so'as to enable others skilled iu the art to make and use the same i therefrom.
Vh-at I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent -is- The crimping-bar d, arranged between Ythe guideways b, in combination with the oscillating compressing-bars fi, arranged and operating substantially as J Enum: W. Buss.
