Be it known that I, ROBERT iVARG, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State oflVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Radiators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, economical and effective steamradiator, the construction and arrangement of the radiator-base being such that a continuous and direct flow of steam is passed through the radiator, thereby overcoming the liability of air-pockets being formed therein, and also rendering it possible to dispense with steam-pressure in order to maintain a uniform heating surface throughout the radiating coils.
The invention consists in various details of construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter fully set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 represents a sectional plan view of a radiator embodying the features of my invention, with parts broken away to better illustrate the details, and Fig. 2, a sectional elevation of same, as indicated by line 2-2 of Fig. 1, with a portion of the steam-coil in full.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 1, 1, indicate hollow radiator bases, each be ing provided with a longitudinal. central partition 2, which partition divides the base into separate chambers 3, t, respectively. The chambers are connected by series of looped steam-pi es 5, in screw-thread connection witl'! apertures in the upper wall 6 of the base, the apertures being upon opposite sides of the partition.
One end of each base is provided with a transverse steam-head '7 having steam-inlet and discharge openings 8, 9, in its ends and upon opposite sides of the partition, the openings being faced at their outside edges for the reception of suitable packing. The bottoms of the radiator-bases are inclined in the direction of their heads, whereby condensation is caught therein and drained from said heads by suitable drip-pipes 10 tapped into the former.
In practice, two or more of the above described radiator sections are coupled together with their abutting openings 8, 9,
alined, and between the faced edges of the openings are placed metallic rings 11, which rings serve to pack the joints thus formed. These rings are also placed upon the first and last radiator base openings, there being threaded apertured caps placed over said rings for the reception of steam inlet and discharge pipes, not shown. The caps are provided with openings into which are fitted headed tie-rods 12, which rods, by means of nuts 13 in threaded connection therewith, serve to d aw the sections or bases together and maintain them in position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that exhaust may be utilized direct from an engine without causing backpressure, the steam passing through the entire radiator and carrying air ahead of it, said steam being finally discharged to atmosphere. By this arrangement of steam circulation airpockets caused through condensation of steam are entirely eliminated from the coils, it being understood that live-steam may be utilized with similar results, in which case the pressure would be nominal, owing to the fact that an uninterrupted flow of steam is maintained. When live-steam is used in a system employing radiators of my construction, any well known method of connection from the last radiator may be employed. Where it is desired to carry steampressure in the system, the last radiator is provided with a closed discharge-end, and a suitable air vent valve in order to dispel air from said system.
I claim:
1. A steam-radiator comprising a longitudinal hollow base, a longitudinal centrally disposed partition extending from end to end of the base, whereby separate chambers are formed, a transverse steam-head at one end of the base having oppositely disposed steam-inlet and discharge openings therein upon opposite sides of the longitudinal partition, and transverse looped steam-pipes in connection with the hollow base upon opposite sides of the partition.

A steam-radiator having a plurality of parallel sections, each of which sections c0mprises a longitudinal hollow base having a longitudinal centrally disposed partitionwall extending from end to end thereof, whereby separate chambers are formed, each hollow base being formed with a transverse steam-head at one end having steam-inlet and discharge openings upon opposite sides of its partition in direct communication with the steam-head of the adjacent hollow have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Visbase, and a series of looped pipes for each cousin in the presence of two Witnesses.
