FRUIT-HOLDING RECEPTACLE.

Be it known that we, FRANK PERRY and OTTO S. NORDHOLT, citizens of the United States, residing at Ludington, in the county of Mason and State of Michi an, have invented certain new and useful Improvemonts in Fruit-Holding Rece tacles; and we do declare the following to e a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention relates to certain improvements in receptacles or bags adapted to be conveniently borne by the user Afor conveniently disposing of or holding fruit, as apples and the like, while being removed or picked from a tree.

The object of the invention is to effect the aforesaid purposes in a simple, effective and expeditious manner, and to provide for the ready emptying or removal of the contents of the receptacle or bag when desired. Also, to promote simplicityT and convenience of use of the same.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangements of parts as will be described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

ln the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment of our invention, Figure l is a side elevation of the device with its suspending straps extended as would be the case in applying it to the body of the user; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view; and Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation at right angles to the plane of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of the bottom clasps or holding members.

ln carrying out our invention we provide a suitable receptacle, 1, of the bag type for instance, especially designed to hold fruit such as apples, and the like. Said bag has its upper end normally open, being thus held by means of a stout wire, 2, of elliptical or circular outline, which has applied thereto straps 8, which are buckled together for convenience in applying the same to the body of the user, as, for instance, upon the shoulders, as will be readily appreciated for its convenient suspension in place and for conveniently receiving the fruit as the same is picked up for placing in said receptacle. Said bag has its lower open end secured to U-shaped clasp members or jaws, 4, hinged together at their otherwise free ends, as by means of nut-equipped pivot-bolts for their articulation together, .and whereby said jaws or clasp members may be moved apart as in providing for the opening of the bag at its lower end for the emptying of its contents. Said clasp members or jaws are provided one with a stud or projection, 5, and the other with a spring plate or latch, 6, having preferably an opening for engagement with said stud or projection and whereby, as said clasps or jaws are collapsed, said spring plate will automatically snap into engagement with said projection or stud for formin an effective closure for the bottom of said ag, as when it is being filled with fruit.

lt will be noted from the foregoing that our invention is characterized for its simplicity, ready use and convenience for its intended purpose.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,

the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as deiined in the appended claim.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

ln a device of the class described, a receptacle or bag, a stiffening wire secured around the top of said bag, an adjustable shoulder strap connected to said wire for supporting the device, a pair of pivoted jaws secured to the lower end of the receptacle and being covered by the material thereof, a stud on the side of one of the jaws, and a spring secured upon the opposite jaw and provided with an aperture adapted to engage the stud to hold the aws in locked position.
