FRANCIS M. WOODBURY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF AND JOHN P. BONNELL, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 91,296, dated June 15, 1869; antedated June 8, 1869.
IMPROVED CQIMPOUND FOR CLEANING AND SCOURIHG- WOOD, METALS, 8(0- The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. WOODBURY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have inrented a new and improved Compound for Cleansing Flesh, Wood, Paint, Metal,-&c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and. exact description thereof.
The refuse material known as marble-dust, coming from the sawing and grinding of marble, and which is a mixture of fine particles of marble, sand, and iron from the tool, is combined with crude guano and soap of any kind.
The advantage derived from this compound is, that the marble-dust saud, 850., from the grinding-operation through which they have passed, have, their offensive cutting-edges worn away, and, shotlike, retain their scouring-property, without scratching the furniture, metal, or flesh when used.
The extractive power of guano, when brought in contract with grease-spots, &c., gives the mixture its extraoting property, and the well-known cleansingpower of soap need not be described, the combination of the three articles above named, making the most efi'ective and harmless cleansing-compound known.
I do not claim the grittysoa-p, as sharp sand, pumice, and tripoli have been used; nor do I'claim ammoniated soap, as prepared ammonia has before been used; but
I claim the combination of the refuse material from the sawing and grinding of marble, known as marbledust, in combination with crude guano and soap of any kind, as before described, and for the purpose specified.
FRANCIS M. WOODBURY.
