TICKE T-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
Application filed November 10, 1906. Serial No. 342,865.
T 0 all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that 1, Cinemas L. Bnusn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Bourne, in the county of Baker and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ticket Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ticket holders primarily designed for the reception of street car and like tickets, the object of the invention being to provide a holder wherein a desired number of tickets may be stored and from which the tickets may be conveniently extracted, one by one, for use, a further object being to furnish a hoider of simple and inexpensive construction which affords increased convenience in the operations of inserting and removing the tlCKGtS and read justing the tickets in the event that they should from any cause choke or bind within the holder.
In the accompanying drawing,Figure 1 is a perspective View of a ticket holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal front to rear section thereof. big. 3 is a horizontal cross section.
The holder comprises an oblon rectangular box or casing constructed of sheet metal or other suitable material and of suflicient size to form a chamber whose width and length slightly exceed the tickets to be stored. 'As shown, the box or casing embodies a front wall 1, side walls and top and bottom walls 3 and 4, forming a receiving chamber 5, together with a door 6 adapted to close the 0 en rear end of the chamber, said door being ninged at its lower end to the bot tom wall 4, as indicated at 7, and provided at its upper end with spring catches 8 to interlock withprojections 9 on the walls 2, whereby the door is adapted to beheld closed.
The top wall 3 1s provided in its rear edge with a slotor recess 10 forming an inlet or insertion opening for the introduction of the tickets into the chamber 5, while the front edge of the bottom wall 4 is cut away to form an outlet 11 for the discharge of the tickets. The tickets 12 are adapted to be pressed against the front wall 1 by a spring 13 carried by the door 6 and the opening 11 is of sufficient size only to permit of the outward passage of the forward ticket, or the one lyin immediately in contact with the front wall, while the insertion o ening 10 is preferably of lar er size to enab e a number of tickets to be simultaneously inserted into the chamber 5. A recess 14 is formed in the lower end of the wall 1 for the insertion of the thumb or forefinger to engage and extract the outer ticket.
The spring 13 is in the form of a spring metal plate corresponding nearly in width to the width of the tickets and is suitably fixed at its upper end to the cover 6 below the inlot 10 and then curves downwardly and forwardly, whereby sufficient space for the free insertion of the tickets is afforded, while the lower or free end of the spring is brought to bear with sufficient pressure on the tickets to hold them firmly in position.
By the structure described the tickets may be conveniently inserted and extracted, and increased convenience is afforded by adapting-the device to permit of the extraction of but a single ticket at a time while allowing the maximum number to be stored to be inserted in one operation, if desired. It is not necessary to open the door 6 to insert the tickets, but'it ail'ords a ready means of access to the chamber 5 in the event that the tickets should from any cause hang or bind therein and it becomes necessary to readjust the same or bend the spring to vary its pressure. It will be observed that the insertion opening 6 exposes the upper free end of the door, so that the latter may be grasped and opened with greater convenience and facility.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
A ticket holder comprising a side wall, a bottom wall and a top wall, the topwall and the bottom wall being each cut away to form an inlet and an outlet opening, said inlet and outlet opening being arranged diagonally with respect to each other, said side wall having a recess at one end which cooperates with said outlet opening, a hinged cover for the casing having one end of a spring plate se cured thereto so as to aline with the inlet opening, said plate having one portion curved midway of its length for the passage of the tickets from the inlet opening and the other portion of the plate being approximately straight so as to form a seat for the tickets, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
