BURGLAR-ALARM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. a, 1909.
Application til June 28, 1907. Serial No. 381,333.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jonx WnLLs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Forsyth, in the county of Rosebud and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements inBurglar-Alarms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to burglar alarms, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide an electric burglar alarm to be connected to 'windows and doors, which will sound an alarm whenever the windows are raised or the door opened, and will also indi cate what particular door or vwindowhas been moved.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simple burglar alarm which will operate efficiently to sound an alarm and indicate the locality of the window or door in which an attempt; has been made to enter, and to provide means whereby any or all of the connections maybe cut out whenever it is not rc- 1 quired for use. I
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the cormc-ctions, the alarm bell, and the indicator. Fig. 2 is a detail View illustrating the door alarm mechanism. Fig. 3 is a dc tail view showing the window alarm device in section. Fig. is a detail view of the hinged contact plate of, the window alarm.
Referring to the drawing fora more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a door or other movable element, and connected immediately above the door is a horizontal arm 2 to which is piv- .oted a trigger 3, said trigger having a beveled hingcdly connected contact latch disposed in lower end 4, and the upper end being provided with a notch 5, said trigger being pivote i at 6 to the arm 2. Alatch 7 hinged to a bracket 8 by means of the hinge 9, said latch being disposed in alinement with the trigger in and provided with a notch 10.
The window alarms each comprise a plate i1 titted in a recess 12 in the wimlow frame, and connected to said plate is a contact plate 12, which is hinged to a plate 14 secured by screws 15 to the plate ll. Electrical conncctions n!- are connected to the plate I 1, and eX- 3 tend through battery I to the alarm hell c, 1 and connections (I provided 'ith a contact point 0 against which the contact plate -13 is adapted to hear when the window 1 IS.
raised, extend through a switchf to the indieat-or 9. From the door alarm electrical connections A and I) extend from the bracket 8 and the arm 2 to the indicator, and through the battery to the bell.
The operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows: When one ofthe window sash l" is raised, the contact plate 13 is forced against the contact point e which serves to close the circuit betwcen the con-, nections a and d to the alarm. bell c and to the indicator to indicate which one of the windows has been raised. When the door 1- has been opened it comes in contact with the lower end of the trigger 3 and forces the upper (aid-backward to raise the latch 7 so that the upper end of the trigger engages the notch H) in the latch, thus making the circuit through arm 2, trigger 3, latch 7, and connections A, B to the indicator and alarm bell.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that an alarm made in accordance with my invention can he quickly installed; is simple in construction; will quickly indicate the loca tion oi the window or door through which entrance is sought to be made; and that any or all of the alarms may be cut out by operating the switchesf.
llaving thus described the invention, what 1 claim is:
The combination with a movable element, of a burglar alarm comprising a horizontal arm, a trigger located above the said element and pivoted to the arm adapted to lie normally in a vertical position and in the path of movement of said element, said trigger having a notched portion at its upper end, a
the path of movement oi the trigger and adapted to be elevated thereby, said latch having a notch formed therein to receive the notched portion of the trigger, electrical conncctions for said latch and trigger respecs tivcly, and an indicator and an alarm in circuit with said electrical connections.
In testimony whereof, I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
