Description
dilated t-atta CHARLES G. NYE, OF ONONDAGA, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 90,775, dated June 1,1869.
IMPROVED TIRE-HEATING- OVEN.
The Schedule referred to in these Leters Patent and making part of the same To all whom. 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. Nrn, of Onondaga, in the county of Onondaga, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Oven for Heating Tires; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact'description thereof', which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Fignre 1 shows -a perspective view of my invention, with one of the covers swung partially open, and
Figure 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate Alike parts.
This invention relates to an improved apparatus for heating tires, whereby a poorer quality anda less quantity of fuel can be used than ordinarily, and whereby the tires are free from liability to settle out of shape when hot; and
The invention consists in an annular heating-chamber,` having a suitable furnace or fire-box, constructed in such manner that the tires lie upon a level bed when hot, and are'readily admitted or removed, and so that the smoke from the furnace is prevented from escaping from the apparatus when opened; the apparatus orheating-charnber being also adjustable in its dimensions, as hereinafter more fully explained.
The annular heating-chamber is formed by a bed or bottom, A, with an inner wall, a, fig. l', and by two swinging pieces B, which form the top and outer wall, and are hinged t o the rear part of the apparatus by screw-bolts b.
C is the fire-box or furnace.
To place the tires in the heating-chamber, the covers B are swung out sidewise, and the sectional cover e, iig. 1, is'also raised. The tires are then laid on the flat ring or bed-plate A, and the apparatus closed. The repassesaronnd the heating-chamber in both directions from the furnace, and the smoke is discharged frotn the outlet f, which is provided with a pipe, connecting with the chimney or otherwise.
The hinges of the cover B have each a screw-bolt for a pivot, and said screw-bolt b has a crank-handle, so that the swinging covers B can hc screwed down or lowered, and the size of the heating-chamber reduced when narrow tires are to be heated.
When the apparatus is to be opened, the smolrie and other gaseous products of combustion are conducted from the heating-chamber into an annular due, H, below the heating-chamber, and which connects the furnace with the smoke-pipe f.
This'is effected by a sliding damperor dampers, k, j, and t', attached to a rod, I; said dampers closing all the smoke or heat-passages leading to and from the heating-chamber, and opening others which make a con-` nection between the furnace and chimney, by the way of the iine H. The dampers are operated by taking hold of the sliding rod I, fig. 1.
By this means the operation .can be carried on indoors with the greatest facility, and the tires have a fairbed to rest upon, and do not get out of' shape; and a poorer quality of fuel can be used than heretofore,` and a less quantity is also required.
Having thus described my invention,
What` I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. Infcombination with the furnace or fire-box O, the annular heating-chamber,composed of the wings and annular flanged plate B B A a and the chimney j; substantially as and for the purpose herein s et forth.
2. The combination of the furnace C, annular ue H, damper-s I i j k, heating-chamber and chimney, substantiallyas and for the purpose described.
3. The combination of the adjusting-hinges b with the wings B B and annular fianged plate A a, subl stantially as described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 1st day of March, 186
CHARLES G. NYE. Witnesses:
WM. J. DODGE, F. A. MoRLEY.
