Specification oi' Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1908.
Application lled July 28, i906. Serial No. 328,149.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knovvn that I, DnNNrs Honnn'rn, a citizen of the United States, residing atChester, in the county of Delaware and State ot Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful. Improvement in Water-Coolers, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in Water coolers or heaters and filters, and has ior its obiect tc so construct a water cooler or heater so to provide a space for the ice and a separate reservoir for drinking Water and a lter through which this drinking Water 'must before reach ing the reservoir, and also to provide means for drawing oil the drippings from the ice When occasion re uires. p
With these en s in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of eiements hereinafter set forth and then speciiically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled. in the art to which this invention appertains may underlstand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying draWin formin a part of this specification, in Whiiigure 1 is a vertical section of a cooler made in accordance With my improvement. Fig. 2, a similar view showing a slight modifi cation in which the upper ice receptacle is omitted. Fig. 3, a similar view of a still further modi'tication in which the side door, upper ice receptacle and upper cooling box is omitted. l
In carryingf out .my invention as embodied in Fi l, A represents the casing having a door arranged thereto to close an o enlng in the side of the casing through Whic various articles may be placed within the casing for cooling purposes.
C re resents the filtered Water reservoir which as connectedtherewith the supply pipe D, the latter terminating at the to in a socket E in which the neck of a bottle may be inserted, and this socket is preferably pro vided with an elastic or com ressible washer G to facilitate the insertion o the neck of thc bottle and also to prevent leakage atI this C, is supported above th bottom of' casing A, by means of inverted V-s'haped supports A', to provide space in which the end ot a faucet K is received.
II represents a filter tube in which any c( suitable filtering material may be placed, and this tube is readily inserted Within the sup-` plyA ipe D so that the drinking Water supplied) from the bottle F must first pass throu h this filtering material before reaching tie reservoir C, and in so doing it Will bc nried. The filter tube H may be provide with a bail I by which it may be readily Withdrawn from the pipe D.
J is a faucet for Withdrawin the ltered Wa- 7o ter from the reservoir, and also rovide'a faucet K for drawing ofi the dri' pings from the ice when occasion requires, ut in prac-l tico I prefer to let these drippings accumulate in the bottom of the casing until the level receive various articles to be kept cool, and
the door N is provided for access to this space. Access to ice receptacle L, is had by removing the top L', thereof.
O is a drain pipe leading Ifrom the ice receptacle to the lower portion of the casing so 9o as to drain oii the drippings from the ice.
In Fig. 2 I have shown a slightly modified form of my invention in which the space M is omitted, the ice rece tacle L being closed by the lip P hinged to t e top of the Casin and may j e loany suitable number of racks cated within the casing below t e ice receptacle for holdin articles to be cooled. InFig. 3`I Iiave shown a` lfurther slight modication of my invention in which the 10o door B is omitted as well as the ice rec-opta# cle L and spaces M, and in this construction 'the ice is placed directly in the casing resting upon the reservoir C.
It is obvious that instead f arranging the socket E for the reception of a bottle from Which to draw the Water' to be filtered, a suit able coupling lmay be provided at this point by which the service p1 es of a buildinu may be attached directly to t e supply pipe D, and 11u vcrted V-shaped supports seating on the'cesit is also obvious that 'other slight modifications may be made Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what l claim as new and useful, 1s-
A Water cooler consisting of a, casing, a 'Water reservoir consisting of it horizontal part spaced from the bottom of said casing, in-
ing bottom and engaging said part, n, vertical supply pi )e connected to the roer of seid horizonteJ crt and having its top end formed with a societ, semi-circular in cross section which extends to the exterior of the top of the casing, e compressible Washer circular in cross section seatlng in said socket and pro- 'eating on the socket interior to ,support a ottle neck et oints spaced from the top of seid socket, a' aucet extending through the casing and into seid horizontal part of the reservoir and a second faucet extending through the casing and into said space between. the horizomel part of the reservoir and the casing bottom.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DENNIS HOWARTH.
