To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS WALSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole and Shade Fixtures, of which the followin is a specification.

My invention re ates to curtain-pole and shade fixtures and the object of my invention is to provide a combined curtain pole and shade fixture which may be readily and quickly adjusted in width to fit any shade.

A further object of my invention is to provide a combined curtain pole and shade fixture which may be readily and quickly placed in position and as readily removed without marring the window frame which is done more or less when the fixtures are secured in place by nails which must be withdrawn to remove the fixture.

he brackets are each provided with a sleeve portion through which is passed a horizontal rod connecting the two brackets. The rod is preferably fixed in one of the sleeves and the other bracket is slidably mounted on the rod and is provided with means for clamping it thereto when adjusted to the proper width. The inner edges of the brackets are notched to receive the supporting devices which are secured to the window frame. The supporting devices are preferably round or fancy headed screws which are inserted in the frame before the fixture is placed in position. To secure the fixture in position, the aforementioned clamping device is loosened and one of the notches is engaged with one of the screws. The other bracket is then slid along the rod until the notch in the edge of the bracket engages the other screw after which the clamping device is tightened.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 indicate the right and left hand brackets respectively, of the fixture. These are preferably formed of sheet metal and comprise a flat base plate portion 3, a curtain pole supporting arm 4 and a shade roller supporting arm 5, the latter of which are provided with suitable apertures 6 to receive the end supports of the roller. The arms 4 which support the curtain pole extend outwardly at rig t angles to the base plate ortion 3 and from the outer edge thereof, w ereas, the arms 5 extend outwardly from the inner edge. The brackets are each formed of a single piece of sheet metal stamped out and bent into the desired form, and the lower end of the rectangular plate portion 3 is bent to form a horizontal sleeve 7, and a flange 8.

The bracket 2 is preferably rigidly fixed to the rod and to this end, a rivet 10 passing through the flange 8 and plate 3 binds the sleeve firmly upon the rod. The bracket 1 is slidably mounted on the rod and to this end its respective sleeve portion 7 forms a clamping member for securing it in proper position with relation to the bracket 2. 0 this end, a thumb screw 11 is pro vided which passes through the flange 8 and plate 3. The inner edges of the plates 3 are provided with notches 12 to engage the screws 13 fixed in the window frame 14. To

place the bracket in position, the screws 13 being previously inserted in the frame, the thumb screw 11 is loosened and the notch 12 in the bracket 2 is engaged with its respective screw 13. The bracket 1 is then slid along the rod until its notch 12 engages its respective screw 13, after which the screw 11 is tightened. To remove the fixture, it is but necessary to loosen the screw 1 1 and slide the bracket 1 upon the rod 9 for a short distance, after which the fixture may be readily removed.
