My nov-el collar fastening clip is designed for use in connection with a shirt-'band coni- ,posed for a part of its length `of two folds xand wherein the huttoirli'ole ,at the Vhack 0f the shirt-band to reccivethe collar button or 'other fastening device is formed in the outer vfold of the band, the inner fold protecting the neck of the wearer from Contact with tlic collar button. My novel clip comprises a body portion i that occupies the space between the folds of the neck-band above thebutton-hole and a tongue that extends rearwardly through the bultoulhole and projects with its free end dowuw-.udly therefrom inzposition to pass through th(` roar button-hole of the collar when the collar is brought to position and .pressed upwardly into place. The `said tongue. when so engaged with the collar, holds the collar froin rising and also holds it from shiftinaf:r laterally or 'circum'ferenl tially of the shirt-band. Ordinarily there is little or no tendency for the collar to drop downwardly atthe back of the shirt-band, inasmuch as the pull or stress exerted by the collar on the rear fastening device is.np.

The clip is insertedin place by first invertingY it with the tongue directed upwardly, insertingthe tongue upwardly between the two foldsof the neclr-'bal1d and through the buttonholc of lthe fold A1 of said ncrk--bunkl from the rear thereof, and their-alter reversing the clip endwise so as to bring the trans- .rersc `body portion c into the space between `the folds of the neck-band above the buttonhole, and the central collar holding tongue with its end pointed downwardly, outside of therearmost fold ofthe shirt-band. Then the clip is thus inserted into place and as it is being reversed to bring it to its proper position the ends of the side arms or lugs 02 are passed over and in Contact with the rear face of the outer fold of the neck-band ucar the margin thereof, which margin. by reason of its flexibility is. al thisY time, turned outwardly, and when the` clip is completely rcvm'scd and assumes its linal or operative po sition as shown in Figs. l and Q. the said arms or lugs c2 lie in rear of the outer fold. of the neck-band. The said arms tend to give lateral stability to the clip when in place and avoids tendency of the clip twisting, and this function of the arms is emphasized when the collar is in place with its inner fold l) inserted partially between the said nrius and the centraltonguc, as clearly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. The said cen- 4tral tongue is curved or sprung` outwardly or rearwardly from the transverse body portion c in order to alord room forfthe ready fitting of the collar to the clip. Preferably also the lower end of the central tongue is curved outwardly as indicated at c, so as to facilitate the insertion of the tongue into the button-hole of the inner fold of the collar when the collar is fitted in place. l In orde r to prevent the collar dropping or falling from its position on the shirt-band in the event that such a tendency should occur, I may provide a stop at the lower end of the tongue 01' constructed and arranged to engage-the lower margin ofthe inner fold of the collar. In the present instance such shoulder or stop is provided by cutting and bending the tongue to form an'inwardly projectmg spur clocated on the inner side of the tongue. The .spur thus formed is severed from the body of the tongue at its upper margin and is inclined upwardly and rearwardly 4from its lower end, thus producing an abrupt, upwardly facing shoulder at.its top, approached by a gradual inclination of the spur,4 which affords no obstructin to the fitting of the collar to the tongue, While preventing the collar droppingits stated.

A onepiece sheet-metal clip for fastening a collar to a. two-fold shirt-band, comprising an elongated transverse body portion, a centrally disposed downwardly ex- Atending collar attaching tongue, two arms extending downwardly froni the ends of said body portion, one at each side of the tongue, and a projcctiorrextending inwardly from the-lower end of said tongue, said projection having an abrupt upwardly facing part and an inwardly and upwardly inclined underside.
