Be it known th9;t I, JOHN'M. FAEHR- MANN, a citizen of the Unite'cl Staltes, re siding at Houston in the eouhfilybf Har'ris ahd State 0f Texas, have invented eertain neW and useful Impr*overnent in Gases for Tourists Glasses,of wh-ich the following is a speoifioation, referenee being had berein.
t0 the aecompanying dretwing. y
My invent1on relates to im roVernents in cases f0r tourists glasses, an is a division of my parent apphcatiori Ser. N0.- 391,735 filed September 6th, 1907.
The objeet of the present Vention is 110 provide a casefor the protection of a tourist glass when the laltter not in rise,Where in the construction is Such that the glass can vbe eonveniently inserted anal removed from the case.
In the accompanyin drawings, Figure 1, is an edge view (part y in section) '0f my improved case, the tourist glass being shown therein. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal sectienal view 0f my 1mpr0ved case, showing the tourist glass positioned therein. Fi 3, is a perspeeoive view of 1ny im r0ve case. Fig. 4, is a Ion itudinalsectiona view showing a modifie oonstruction. Fig 5, is a similar view showing another form.
The form of tourist glass with which rny present' invention is more particularly intended to be used, is that form herein shown, in which there is a eircular end or body portion 1 having a rojecting stem 4 the end aving a cone o1 pointed shaped e11d 5, andis of the forma shown in the arent application herein referred to.-
T e body of the Gase 6 consists of side members 18,- and these side menibers are connected by -rneans 0f end pieces or heads 7 and 8. In Figs. 1 to 3 theerid piece 7 is provided with a spring-actuated plunger 9 having (projecting pins 10 around Wh10h spiral springs. 11, and the outer ends of these springe 11 rest;in recesses' 12 formed in thehead7; Also projectin from the plunger 9 is a stem 13 harfing a s 012 14 through which a pin 15-passes; by rneans of Wh10h the plunger or follew6r is held in its proper pos1tien. F01 the prpose'of enabl1i1g the instrrrient or. glasstobe reaolily removed fron'1 the Gase, the sides of the case are cut out es shown ab 16. Thepointed end 5 of the stern 4 is adapted 130 engage a recess 17 formed in the heacl, as =shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Int h9event that the side pieees of ehe case are sufficiently separated '00 permit the insertion therebeoween of the thumb er finger o0 engage ehe glass, the autaway portion of the sicles may be omittecl. The head 8 is provided wioh a suitable ring 18 by means of which the case may be attached toa suitable chain.
Referring now to Fig. 4, the spring-aetuated follower is placed ab the 0 posite end of the case from tl1at shown in %igs. 1 and 2, and es shown in this figure, consists 0f follower 19 which is provided with a recess 21 for the engagement therewith o'f the pointed end 0f ehe 'stern 4. the head 8 is providecl With pins 22 whieh pass -through openings formed in the folovveT, am]. s iral springs 23 pass ar0und these ins. n this forIn the follower is limite in its inward movement by having -the stem 24 which supports the suspending fing, passed through the follower, and pro vided with a suitable head.
In Fig. 5, another m0dification is shown,
in whieh the spring follower 25 moves in a s1ot 26 formed in the head 8, and the fol- 10wer is provided With transverse slots 27 through which pins 28 pass. A suitably shaped flat spring serves t0 hold the follower nOrmally inward.
The tourist glass, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, isfolded up or closed before it is inserted in the case, and the case .may or may not be carried in the pocket of the user, es may seem most convenient.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimand desire t0 seeure by Letters Paterit, is:
1. A case of th'e character described comprisi1ig parallel side ortions, a cross-head connectmg one end 0 ehe side portions and having a curved inner side, a eross head connecoing ehe opposite ends 0f the side portions and .provided with a recess for the urpose described, and a spring actuated ollower oarried by one ofthe cross-heads.
2. A case 0f the charaeter described comprisingparallel side prtions, cross heads connectin *the ends of 'he side portions, one cross-hea rovided with a s r'n -aetuated folloWer an the other cross-Ilea rqvided with a surfaceto conform with t at of a glass 130 be carried thereby.
3. A ca se of the eharacter described comprising Parallel side portions, cross heads connectmg the ends of the side portions, a springactuated follower carried by one cross-head meitns for limiting' the inwarcl movement 0f the follower anal "the "013l1e1 cross-head having a surface to correspond with that of a glass t0 be carrieclthereby.
4. A case of the character described, comprising parallel side portions, cross heads connecting ehe ends of the side .poroions, a spring actuated follower carried by one cross-head, a pin f01 limiting the inward movement of the follower, anal the other cross-head having a surface '00 correspond with that 0f a glass t0 be carried thereby.
5. A case of the character described comprising a broad flatcasehaving its edges open ab the sides, a spring actuated follower within the case at 011e end, und tl1e other end of the case made t0 conform with alle end of a glass to be carried thereby.
6. A case of tl1e character described com prising a. parallel flat side ortion connected together at their ends by c1oss heads, one cross-head shaped 130 conform with that Of a glass '00 be carried a s ring a.ctuated follower within the case ajaoent the 0p 0site cross-head, anal a pin securing the fofiower within the case and limiting the inward movement thereof.
7. A case of the character described, compnsmgpa;rllel s1ele .port1ons, cross heads connectmg the ends of the s1de port1ons a syring-actuacefl follower carried by one of actuated men1ber an 0ne end of the housing,
a.nd the opposite end of the housing curvc l 00 conform 130 a glass.
9. A case 0f the character described comprising a. case havin g its edges open at the sides, .one end 0f the case shaped to confo1m witl1 that of a glass to bei ca1ried, a. springactuated follower Witl1in the case at the opposite end, and means 'l01 liniiting the inwar l movement 0f said f0llower.
In testimony whereof I a.flix my sig1mtulc in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN M. FAEHRMANN. VVitnesses:
