PRUDENCE M. WELSH, OF LONGBEAOH, CALIFORNIA.
TOY OR AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PR'UDENCE M. l/VnLsri, a citizen of the United States, residing at Longbeach, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toy or Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy or amusement device and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character comprising a frame having a series of longitudinally arranged strips or wires and a series of flexible strips, which when properly fitted together represent the picture of a figure or animal and which are adapted to be positioned upon the longitudinal strips of the frame in such a manner as to present the picture properly placed together, thereby simulating the process of weaving a figure upon the frame.
With these objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction of parts and their arrangement, as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with my invention, showing a series of strips positioned upon the frame bearing different pictorial designs. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the frame. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a series of flexible strips, each strip designed for bearing a section of a pictorial design and adapted to be positioned upon the frame. Fig. 4 is a sectional view upon the line 44 of Fig. 1 illustrating the manner of lacing the flexible strips upon the frame.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates the frame of my amusement and instructive device. As illustrated in the drawings the frame 1 comprises a top 2, bottom 3, ends 4 and 5 and a handle 6. The frame is preferably constructed of a single strand of wire and has its top and bottom preferably of a longer length than the ends of the frame. Secured upon the ends 4t and 5 of the frame, and preferably near the top and bottom thereof are a series of strips 6, spaced preferably at an equal distance apart, and composed each of a Specification of Letters Patent.

strand of wire of a lesser thickness than that of the frame.
In carrying out my invention I provide a series of flexible strips 7, which, when placed together, represent some design, such as the picture of a person or animal, and these strips are provided upon one of their ends with a lip 8, adapted to retain the strips in position upon the frame, and also act as a guide for the person playing the game in ascertaining the bottom or top of y the figure which is desired to be woven or properly positioned upon the frame in placing the separate strips to formulate the character to be developed by a series of these strips containing the sections of the figure.
In playing the game, or weaving, the designs upon the frame, it is designed that a certain number of strips 7 are to be em ployed, and that a certain series of these strips will represent, when properly placed together, a figure or design. The strips are mixed together in a receptacle, and it is the object of the game to pick out the strips having the sections of the design to be placed upon the frame and to properly position the sections thereon, so that they present a complete design of the subject. In positioning the strips upon the frame, the ends of the strips not containing the lips 8 are placed between the wires or bars 6 and the lip 8 retained upon either the top 2 or the bottom 3 of the frame, thus effectively retaining the strips in position upon the frame.
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a simple device for the amusement and instruction of children, whereby they will become accustomed to the formation of difierent designs and figures and thus accustomed to the proper proportion and formation of forms.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
1. An amusement device comprising a frame having a series of wires arranged longitudinally of the frame, and a series of flexible strips each bearing a section of a pictorial design and adapted to be laced upon the wires and when properly positioned the complete design being represented.
2. In an amusement device, a frame con- 10 series of wires, the lips of the strips adapted v to engage either the top or the bottom of the frame, and the strips when properly positioned representinga complete design.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
