To all whomet may concern:

Be it known .that I, MURRAY W. FERnIs, a 4citizen of the United States, and a resident of South Or n e, in the county of Essex and State of New ersey, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Shoulder-Braces., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention. relates to wearing apparel, and lts object is to provide certain new and useful tending to hold the body of the wearer in pro er position, with a view to insurean u right, healthy carrie. e, at the same time a owing sufficient yiel ing for the comfort ofA the wearer, -protecting the arm straps against perspiration, preventing the shoulder straps om accidentally sliding ofi the shoulders, and allowin convenient adjustment to accurately t t e wearers body;

The invention consists of novel features andlparts and combinations ofthe same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in ythe claims. 1

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in whlch similar characters of reference indicate corres ending parts in all the views.

As shown 1n Fi s. 1 and 2, the shoulder brace in its genera construction embraces a girdle A, crossing back straps B, B', shoulder stra C, C and elastic bands D, D secured on t e terminals of the shoulder straps C, C and extending into ockets E, E formed on the back straps B, the lower end of the said elastic 'bands D, D being secured by stitches or other fastening means F to the pockets E, E at the lower portions thereof, as plainly indicated in Fig. 3. The girdle A is made 1n two parts A A fastened together by avlacing G, and the ower end of the back strap B is removably connected by buttons H or other fastening means to the rear end of the girdle art A'. The other back strap B is integral y connected at its lower end with improvements in shoulder braces,

the rear endof the other irdle part A, and by adjusting the lacing the parts can be conveniently adjusted to iit the wearers body, it bein understood that for attachingv the shoulder race or removing the same it is only necessary for the wearer to fasten or unfasten the back strap B at the fastening devices H. f

Each of the shoulder straps C, C has itsl top (portion formed of a transversely shirred ban C2 connectedI to narrow strips C3, so that the shirred bands Cs snugly fit onto the top of the wearers shoulders, 'andrat the same time the shirred or plaited parts securely hold the shoulder straps from slippin off the Wearers shoulders. The portions o the shoulder straps C and C assing under the arms of the wearer are in t e form of pockets C* containing a suitable filling C5, to render the said portions padded and easy under the arms, without dan er of chafing the same. The inner sides of t e pockets C* are formed of a waterproof material, so as to render the pockets impervious to erspiration, thus protecting the padded poc ets against injury by perspiration.

B havin the elastic bands D, D arranged as describe the shoulder straps C, C can yield sufficiently to allow the esired comoil to the wearer when moving the arms or T e portions of the back straps B, B adjacent to the pockets E, E are preferably stiffened by whalebones or other stiffeners B2 (see Figs. 2 and 4.)

VIt is understood that after the girdle parts A', Al are adjusted by the lacin G, no iurther adjustment is required, an its adjustment is not disturbed as it is only necessary for the wearer to button and unbutton theV back strap B at the girdle part A after placing the brace in position on the body or previous to removing the same therefrom.

Having thus described my invention, l

`claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A shoulder brace provided with shoulder straps having shirred top portions for ena ement with the top of the shoulders to old the stra s a ainst slipping.

2. A shou der race rovided with shoul- ,der straps widened at t e top and each having inelastic narrow side strips, and a shirred band connecting the said side strips wlth each other.

3. A shoulder brace provided with4 shoulder straps havin shirred top portions for engagement with t 1e top of t e shoulders, the portion of each'strap extending under the arm of the wearer bein in the forni of a pocket, and a adding {illlng the same.

4. A shoul er brace provided with shoulder straps having top portions for engagement withthe to of the shoulder, the shoulder straps each iaving elastic terminals, the portion of each strap between the top portion and the elastic terminal being in the form of a pocket, and a padding llin the same, the pocket portion ci' each shou der strap being arranged to extend under the arm of the wearer, and the underside of each pocket beingof waterproof material.

5. A shoulder brace provided with back straps and shoulder straps connected with the upper ends of the'baek straps and having top ortions for engaging the shoulders, the shou der straps being adapted to pass under the arms of the wearer and having elastic terminals at their forward ends secured to 'the back straps, the portion of each shoulder strap extending under the arm bein in the form of'a pocket, anda paddin fil ing the same, the underside of each poc et being of a Waterproof material.

6. A shoulder brace provided with back straps, each having a ocket, and shoulder straps forming a continuation of the back stra s at one side of the pockets, andelastic bangs secured to the terminals of the shoulder straps and extending into the said pockets and secured therein at the ends.

7. A shoulder brace provided with back straps, each having a pocket and shoulder straps forming a continuation of the back straps at one side of the pockets, and elasticban s secured to the terminals of the shoulder straps and extending into the said pook ets and secured therein at the ends, the inner sides of the pockets being of waterproof material. v

8. A shoulderbrace, com rising a girdle, back straps connected at t eir lower ends with the ends of the'said girdle, shoulder straps formin integral continuations ol' the upper ends of the saidback straps, elastic bands fixed on the terminals of the shoulder straps, and pockets on the said back straus and into which extend the said elastic bands, the ends of which are fastened in the pockets.

9. A shoulder brace, comprising a girdle made in parts and a lacing for connecting the said arts with each other, a back strapintegrally' connected at itsIower end with the rear end of oneof, the-said girdle parts, and provided at the upper portion with' a pocket,

.a second back strap provided at its upper por tion with a pocket, fastening devices for removabl fasteningthe lower end of the said second ack strap to the rear end ofthe other girdle part, shoulderstraps'extending integrally rom the upper en s of the said back straps, and elastic bands on the forward ends of the shoulder straps and extending into and secured to the said pockets. l

, 10. A shoulder brace, comprising a girdle made in parts and a lacing forconnecting the said parts with each other, a back strap integrally connected at .its lower end with the rear end of one' of the said girdle parts, and provided at the upper portion with a pocket,

a second back strap provided at itsupperA portion with apocket, fastening devices for removably fastening the lower end ofthe said second back strap to the rearend of the other girdlepart, shoulder straps extendin integrally from the upplerr ends of the sai back straps, and elastic ands on the forward ends of the shoulder straps and extendinginto and secured to the said pockets, the shoulder straps having shirred top portions to hold the shoulder straps against slipping on the Wearers shoulders. f
