EGG CARRIER,

WELLS R. STOKILY, OF ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA..
EGG-CARRIER.
Specification o! Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
Application led September 24, 1907. Serial No. 394,297.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WELLs lt. STOKELY, citizen of tlu` United States, residing;y at St. Augustine, in the county ol St. Johns and State of Florida1 ha vc invented new land useful lin n'ovcnnuits in; lling-*Carriers ol' which the loliowinpY is a specilication.
My invention pertains to cylindrical ping boxes for carrying eggs and tieularly to the egg-holders Contained in such boxes; and it consists in the peeuliarand advantageous construction hereinafter described and )artioularly pointed out in the claim appended.
In the accompanying drawings, formingjy part of this speeiiication: Figure 1 a dianletrieal section of a cylindrical box containing superposed egg-holders eonstru cted in aeeordanee with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View of one of the egg-holders removed. Fig. is a fragmentary perspectim View olA the saine. 'y
Similar letters designate corresponding parts in all ol the views of the drawings, referring to which:
A is the body ot' a cylindrical box which is preferably perforated as indicated by o and provided with hoops B B are heads which are perforated at c and are prelWably, though not necessarily, constructed in accordance with the invention forming thesubject matter of my contemporary application of even dato heriovith, tlc-rial Number 394,295, and C (l are my novel egg-- holders which are superposed or arranged oneabove the other in the body A and between the heads U, and are removable individually therefrom.
As best shown in Figs. L und 3, the eggholders` C respectively comprise a circular rim d, of msteboard or other suitable mare-- rial, cireuiar series of tubular cells r1] of paste board or other suitable material. glued or otherwise connected together, gluefor other suitable means connecting the cells e in the outer circle to the rim d, and a central, eircu lar cell g, of pasteboard or other suitabh` material, glued o1' otherwise connected to the cells e in the inner circle7 and designed lor the passage of air as will be presently pointed out. It will be readily apparent that a holder constructed as just described will h old a large number ol in separate cells within a given Circular urea, and this in s uch inanner that shock or jar im Josed on one rcll will not be transmitted 'to the other cells; :ind it l sl|ipi more pari l l l l l l t l i l ln addition to the elements mentioned, I
prefer to have each of the holders C a bottom lt, of pnsteboard or other material, this in order that the holder handled aller the manner ol' a tray to carry a horizontal course ol 7i is provided with a central aperture i in alinement with the central cell g, and is preferably, though not necessarily, glued or other,- Wise connected to the lower ends of the cells comprise slntable may be y and e, and is either formed integral with the rim d :is shown or glued or otherwise fixed to said rim in the discretion of the n1anufacturer.
When desirable the central or air eelli may be omitted and the space within the inner Circular series of cells c utilized for the con.- duct of an' without involving departure from the scope ol" my invention defined in the appended claim.
1n the practical use of my improvements 80 the holders C containingy eg s in their cells e are snperposed i wrongfulv one above the other in the box as shown in Fig. 1, and when the holders are thus arranged it will be ap parent that a eentraLyertieal conduit is at'n 85 lorded in connnunieation with the openings c in heads B and through which air 1s free to pass from the opening in one head to the opening in the other head, thus assuring adequate ventilation of the lt will also be apparent that when the upper head B is removed, the holders C may be lifted one by one. from the box and used after the manner of a tray to hold the eggs while the same are being inspected by a prospective purchaser,
or as a eonvenent means of carrying the eggs trom one part ol a store to another. Again it wlll be noted that when. 1t isdesned to remove eggs from the bonI in the ordinary inannrr it is snnply necessary `to in Vert the box so y as to make the bottom. li. of the lower holder in Fig. 1 uppermost. wWith this done, it will be seen that when the holder mentioned. is lifted, its complement of eggs will be left on the bottom of the next adjoining holder, and
may be readily picked up therefrom. This operation may rxfbvously be repeated until all of the holders and all of the eggs are removed from the box.
lt will be gathered from the foregoing` that in addition to being' simple and lnexpensive, and calculated to compactly carry a large The said bottom 65 number of eggs in safety and in good condition, my improvements facilitate both the peeking and the impocking of the lox so that either' operation muy be effected expeditiously und with hut little labor:
Hoving desorilwli my invention, what I 01mm and desire to Secure by LetterSPatont, is:
The combination with u, box comprising u uylindrioel body and lower and upper heads having openings; of egggholders superposed in the box and eeoh uwin a horizontal course of circuler series o eeis the meetin 'portions of whioh are permanentl connecte together and the ower ends o which are open, a rim surrounding the outer clrculer series of cells and permanently 'connected thereto, and a bottom permanently connected to the rim and festin under the cells and also having a space wit in the inner oirouler series of cells and a central opening in the bottom for the passa, e of air.
In testimony whereof have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witliasses.
WELIB R. STOKELY.
