The finger piece 42 should then be moved to the right to release the clutch and the operator may proceed with the writing, the p aten at this the stops, chain and sprocket wheels. After the bill has been completed the operator may line space twice -in order to provide for the -proper'spacing between the last line of the copy of the invoice j ust completed ou the record sheet and the first line of the next manifold copy of the invoice to be written. It will be observed that theconstruction is such that the stops enable the platen to 'be turned more or less than a full revolution so that the device is capable of' handling hill heads or invoice 'sheets of widely diii'erent characters;
from very short printed heads` to very long printed heads, and in which it mayV be. necessary in some 4instances to turn the platen through more than a complete revolution in that is to say,. bills varying order to brinr the first line of writing on the invoice or bill sheet to theprinting line.
Various modiiications in the structure may be made 'Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
In Fig. 11 I have shown another form of construction in which the stop bar 52a is straight throughout its entire length so that the chain stop 50 will have only a rectilinear movement back and forth.
