This invention relates to improvements in wind instruments havinga sliding member, same as the trombone; the object being, 1st, to lengthen the service of said instrument; 2nd, to lessen the amount of 'oiling" necessary to obtain tlie proper working of, the'sliding part or slide as it lis generally called; 3rd, to
insure cleanliness of the instrument by venting the 011 used 111 the luhr1cat1on oi the parts from being scraped off from the central member and being'tra'nsferred to the outside of the slide where, owing to the construction that has been hitherto employed, the'oil or lubricant has made this instrument very objectionable, as the hands of the. player soon become soiled from the grease or oil which has been deplosited on the outside of slide,
and the clot ing, and particularly the shirt front soon becomes spattered by the'operation of the slide.
In accordance with-the present invention, means are provided so that no grease or lubricant passes to the outside of the moving slide, and in consequence the instrument is rendered as clean as any other instrument of an orchestra.

Instead of leaving the end of the legs 0 square and sharp so as to scrape over the surface of d, as hitherto p racticed, I make the ends with flaring interiors which will act as receptacles or gatherers' for the oil or lubricant, which would otherwise be scra ed oil from the surface of d and not only be lost for the player.
. TWith my invention, the lubricant is redeposited on the tube at as it is withdrawn. The
