COMBINED CARRIER AND DRESSER FOR TOBACCO.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 90,018, dated May 11, 1869.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDRIOK AUGUs'r in the county of Auglaize, and in the Stateof Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in CombinedV Tobacco Carrier and Dresser; and do hereby a full, clear, and exact'descripton thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference man ked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and general arrangement of a combined tobacco carrier and dresser, which In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specication, and 1n which- Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan view with the top of the drum removed.
A represents the frame of the machine, on top of which is placed a shaft, B, in suitable journal boxes. This shaft is at one end provided with a wheel, O, running in the center of a beveled drum, D, secured to the end of the frame A.
The wheel C is, in addition to the usual mounted on an arm to'balance the arm which supports the cutter E.
The outer or front side of the drum D is provided with aA circular opening in the center, as seen in Fig. 1, for` the purpose of admitting air into the same; and from oneside ward, through which spout the tobacco is carried. The tobacco, being admitted into the drum through an opening on the rear side, is cut `by the knife E and falls down to the lower center of the drum, and is driven by the fans phrase, dresses7 the tobacco-that is, loosens up or separates each leaves it all hung together.

what I claim as new, Letters Patent, is-

2. The arrangement and combination ofthe wheel O' on the end of the shaft B with the knife or cutter E and fans or blowers F F, all working inside of the beveled drum D, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
