To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LHARRY E. Asstnr, a

citizen of the L'nited States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Sad-Irons, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a light and substantial ca for a detachable handle sad iron which wil snugly lit the body portion of the iron and which will provide a substantial cross bar to which the handle can be attached. This object I attain in the fol lowing manner. reference being hand to the accompanying drawing, in which:

A is the body of the iron, which can be made in any suitable manner, but is prefer ably made as shown in the CYO$ section,

By this invention I am enabled to make a very light cap of sheet steel, which can be readily applied to the body of the iron and 55 which cannot he accidentally broken.

I claim 1. As a new article of manufacture, a pressed metal cap for sad irons having two openings separated by a' central transverse bar integral with the body of the cap, said bar having depending llan es, the flanges being bent towards each other at their lower ends to form a hollow member to be engaged by the catch of the handle of the sad iron, substantially as described.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a pres ed metal cap for a sad iron having'an integral downwardly projecting flange extending around its edge. arranged to fit over the body of the iron and having two open ings forming a central transverse bar with downwardly projecting flanges, said cap having two longitudinal ribs, one at each side of the cap, said ribs being pressed up from the body of the ca and forming guides for a detachable hand e. substantially as described.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a pres ed metal cap for a sad iron having two openings forming a central transverse bar E with downwardly projecting flanges, and downwardly projecting flanges on each side of each opening connecting with the flanges of the bar, substantially as described.
