To provide a reliable guide for the type in front of the platen, a notched plate '28 is carrier and arranged in a plurality'of circular 55 rows extending continuousl)v around the axis ol' the carrier, a vertically movable sup ort y for the type carrier, a rock shaft mounter below the carrier and engaging said type carrier support, a key connected with said rock shaft, a hammer, means for rotating the type carrier to adjust a selected type in the operative row into position to be operated by the hammer. and a lever for rotating the type carrier and actuating the hammer.
