1.' In a type writing machine, the combination with the'platen, a type carrier rotatably mounted infront of the platen with its axis of revolution extending horizontally at right angles to the length of the platen, and comprising a pair of disks mounted on the shaft of the carrier and disposed at a suitable distance from each other, a pair of vertically barssupporting the said caris so connected with the slide bars i3 14 supporting the latter, that bv pushing t-he shift key Z5 downwards and thereby rocking the shaft 6,

Between the carrier 3 and the platen 7 a type inkiug mechanism is provided. The latter consists of an inking roller 26 having a link connection with a carrier 27. Normally, the said roller is in the. position shown If a letter is to be printed, the proper type is irst moved in Contact with the roller 26 by depressing the corresponding lever 4, whereupon the roller 26 or its carrier .27, is raised by further depressinrr the said lever. Thereby, the type is inked, and the roller is simultaneously moved out of the path'of the type, so as to allow the latter to provided in the carrier. o keep the roller 1n close Contact with the type when moving the sameupwards, a spring is provided, whereby the roller is pressed against the type.

To provide a reliable guide for the type in front of the platen, a notched plate '28 is carrier and arranged in a plurality'of circular 55 rows extending continuousl)v around the axis ol' the carrier, a vertically movable sup ort y for the type carrier, a rock shaft mounter below the carrier and engaging said type carrier support, a key connected with said rock shaft, a hammer, means for rotating the type carrier to adjust a selected type in the operative row into position to be operated by the hammer. and a lever for rotating the type carrier and actuating the hammer.

3. In a typewritiug machine., the combi-- nat-ion with a cylindrical platen, of a type carrier mounted to rotate about. a horizontal axis extending at right angles to the axis of 'the platen. a series of type supported by the '70 carrier and arranged in a plurality of circular rows extending continuouslyv around the axis of t-he carrier, means for effecting a relative adjustment. between the type carrier and the platen to bring the desired one of said rows of type into o er'ative position, a hammer, a lever mounte( to move about bot-h vert-icalV -and horizontal axes, a sector carried by said lever, a pinion connected with the tvpe cartype carrier pinion and sector, whereby when the lever is rocked about its vertical avis the type carrier will be rotated to adjust a sclectu ed type into position to be actuated bv the hammer, and means for releasing the han1- 85 nier controlled by moving the lever about its horizontal axis.
