GASTER FOR ADDING-MACHINE STANDS.

Application filed August 12, 1907. Serial No. 388,165.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTI'N HEN- DRICKS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at'Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michi an, have invented certain new and useful improve- -nents in Casters for Adding-Machine Stands;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as will enable ot ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same.
My invention relates to improvements in casters for adding machine stands, and its object is to rovide a caster movably attached to the leg of the stand in such manner that the caster may be engaged with the floor to carry the stand, or disengaged from the floor to permit the leg of the stand to rest on the floor, and to provide the device with certain new'and useful features hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In operating adding machines it is desir-' able that the stand should not readily move about upon the floor, which is liable to occur because of the power applied to the lever in operating the machine. To avoid this difliculty and also to provide casters upon which the stand may be supported to move the same from lace to place as occasion requires, 1 mount the casters attached to the front legs of the stand upon pivoted supports adapted to assume a vertical position to support the stand upon the casters for moving the stand from lace to place, and also adapted to be turned to an inclined position whereby the legs of the stand to which they are attached will rest upon the floor, and
thus hold the stand securely from moving. I also provide the lower ends of these legs with elastic pads preferably of rubber which tend to adhere to the floor and thus further maintain a stationary condition of the stand when the adding machine is in use.

11 represent the front legs of an adding machine stand; 22 the rear legs of the same this stand being preferably made of metallic tubular structure having horizontally arranged braces 3 and 4 and adapted to supmachine placed thereon, as ig. 1. To move this stand from place to lace, it is mounted upon casters 5 and 6, the casters 5 being located beneath the rear legs of the stand in the usual way, and in constant support of the same. The casters 6 are so arranged as to either support the front legs clear of the floor for movmg from place to place, or to permit the front legs to rest upon the floor to hold the stand immovable while the adding machine is in use. For this urpose the front legs are preferably provided at the lower end with elastic pads 10 which rest upon the floor and adhere thereto to prevent moving of the stand. To movably attach the casters 6 to the front legs, brackets 9 are secured to these legs by means of a concave flange 13 on the bracket, a concave washer 1.4 opposite the same, and a cap screw 15 extending through the washer 14 and inserted in a threaded opening in the bracket 9. The bracket 9 is a so provided with a vertically elongated flange 8 having projections in the form of lllustrated in screwthreaded bosses 16 near its respective upper and lower ends. Each caster 6 is inserted in a support 7 and rotative therein, the upper end of this support being rovided with a flat portion 11 having an e ongated openin to receive the lower boss 16 being p1votal y and lon itudinally movable thereon and a recess at the upper end to receive the upper boss 16 being longer at one side of the recess to guide the boss to place therein.
An outer flan e 8 issecured to the bosses 16 by means 0 screws 12 between which flanges 8 the flat portion 11 of the lug is movable vertically to disengage the upper boss from the recess and rotative about the lower boss to raise the caster from the floor. By this constructionwhen the support 7 is placed vertically and .the upper boss 16 engaged with the recess in the end thereof, the support will be rigidl held in vertical position and the caster wil carry the stand with the front legs clear from the floor. By raising the stand the support 7 will drop down and can then be turned upon the lower boss 16 to an inclined position as in Fig. 5. thus permitting the front leg 1 of the stand to rest upon the floor to securely hold the stand from moving when the machine placed thereon is operated.
What I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising a bracket having lateral flanges at the ends and with a threaded longitudinal bore, one of a said flanges adapted to bear a ainst one side of a stationary structure and the other flange having internally threaded bosses spaced apart, a clamp plate having a central aperture and adapted to bear against the other side of said stationary structure, a support carrying a caster wheel having an elongated aperture bearing over one of said bosses and an open recess detachably engaging the other boss, a guard plate bearing upon said bosses, and clamp screws operating through said guard plate and into said bosses.
